  1. We are in Montreal, Pierre Elliot Trudeau Airport ( much easier when it was plain old Dorval!). Our bags are here, too. Dd gave us AirTags and I have been able to track them when we have internet. It is poor in the airport, and I haven’t been able to sync my Fitbit. The joys of technology. thinking of you all. Hope this posts…. I haven’t been able to like.
  2. Good morning, it’s not often I make it to page 1 , I’ll type fast. Today is my day! We got half way to the Airport and realized I wasn’t wearing my glasses! We had to turn around and go back to get them. That should teach me not to leave the house without having had my coffee. Anyway, we made it and our flight crew just walked by, so I guess the flight to Montreal will be going. Not page 1, I didn’t type fast enough! We keep on getting emails from HAL telling us to complete our checking with a US address , and we don’t have a US address,we are going straight from the ship to the airport after the cruise. They know that! On the Navigator check in, it doesn’t even ask fora US address. Crazy…
  3. All my pots have been moved into the courtyard, as DD has advised me she will only be watering in there. My bag is locked and out in the hall, my carry-on is heavy, as I have some plates I am taking to DD in Gander, once they are gone the bag will be much lighter and I will be able to put in a few more "necessities" for the next flights. Pat has been allowed to check in for both flights tomorrow, Air Canada has not advised us of any cancellations ... yet....
  4. We were also in Sarande on Prinsendam on October 12, 2016, Lenda! That was also the cruise where we met @sailingdutchy and his DW! But I don't think we met you... (unless you were on one of his tours?) We took a ship's tour to Butrint, a very interesting Roman/pre-Roman site. Our guide explained that the stone constructions were pre-Roman, and the Romans added the brickwork. It was all very intricate, and mostly under water when we were there, it had been raining heavily. My town pictures are very like the others posted, so I will just add some of Butrint.
  5. They did take his blood pressure, etc., and said he was okay. He is on blood pressure meds, and checks his BP fairly regularly. I think it was just the dry air. But thanks for your concern.πŸ˜„
  6. Norwegian Sun hit an iceberg (growler) in Alaska which did some damage. It was on our news this evening.
  7. Everything seems fine now, after a wait at the hospital the nosebleed had stopped, I guess, so they didn’t cauterize as I had thought they would, just put some Vaseline up his nostrils and told him to do it every day for a week. Hope that will be enough. It has been dry lately. I got my haircut, but I’m not too happy with it. I wish my regular beautician had been available.
  8. I eventually called the doctor's office about Pat's nosebleed, really heavy and lots of clots (sorry! TMI?), and was told to take him to the hospital, so we went to the General where there was a lineup out the doors to Emergency, so we turned around and made for the little hospital near us, which I always forget about, the Saanich Peninsula Hospital, and I just dropped him off there. He has the newspaper to read and I will wait for his call to pick him up. If I am at my hairdresser, DD will have to go to get him, and hopefully she will be back from the dentist and feeling okay...
  9. Good morning, busy time here. Pat is having a serious nosebleed, probably stress-related πŸ˜‰, but at least his sciatica is better, and the physiotherapist gave him exercises and told him he must have bruised his hip bursa? He cancelled the doctor's appointment. I have sent him back to bed, and DD is roaring around getting ready for a dentist appointment to have stitches out (5 teeth pulled). I have a haircut this afternoon. and then hopefully, we are ready to leave early Saturday. Now there is a pilot strike looming in Denmark! Happy birthday to @smitty34877's DH! Lovely peonies, @kazu, mine are pretty well past, I will go out today and trim off the last dead heads for the gardeners to remove. Geraniums are blooming, and then there's pretty much just annuals for the summer, I didn't plant many this year, knowing we would be away. Bon voyage, @rafinmd, keep in touch! DD gave us Apple AirTags for Mother's and Father's Days and we now have them set up in our suitcases and I put one in my carry-on. We will be able to tell if our bags make it onto the flight with us - not that we will be able to do anything about it if they don't! You can probably tell I am feeling fatalistic about this whole expedition - "Que sera, sera!"
  10. Good morning, Daily family! Sorry about Jaguar, @1ANGELCAT. And happy at the same time that Jacqui is home with her bag! (I thought you had taken just a carry-on? Did you eventually have to check it?) We are flying premium economy, but have checked and the airports have Nexus lines which hopefully will help. We are dreading Montreal, I think it is just about as bad as Toronto. Just have to hope that we and our bags make it to Gander. We are still trying to figure out a back up from London to Copenhagen. Flight Ease can't help. The plan at the moment is to go to a travel agent when we are in England. From Halifax to London we are flying WestJet (fingers crossed), no lounge, but we might walk over to the airport hotel. DD says it is nice. I haven't decided whether to do a Live From on the Viking Passage. I think the internet can be quite iffy in those northern waters!
  11. I decided to cut some roses today, because they will need to be deadheaded anyway in the next few days and then we will be away, so we might as well enjoy them inside.
  12. We're re-thinking - will the weather be good in Ireland for the April 20's next year? It's a way to get across, at a pretty good price, I missed one port on the Caribbean, it also stops in Key West. Maybe we'll stay with it, but we'll have to mull it over.
  13. We're not at all happy with the changes. 8 days at sea with no Azores on the TA, and we were booked on the previous Caribbean cruise, with stops in San Juan, Grand Turk, St. Thomas, and Half Moon Cay, and now it is shortened to just Nassau and HMC. Unless the price is greatly reduced, we will be cancelling! If we want all those sea days with no break we'll go back to Cunard....
  14. Haven't heard from @roxybear135 for a couple of days. Hope all is well!
  15. Good morning, Dailyites! Interesting day - insurance for me means taking a complete change of clothing in my carry-on, just in case! I try to persuade Pat to do the same, but he is willing to risk all. We have two flights on Saturday (holiday weekend), from here to Montreal, and Montreal to Gander, so I may just smuggle his underwear, at least, into my carry-on. Then we have four days in Gander, and then another two flights to London. A week in England, and then a last (BA) flight to Copenhagen. We are trying to book another flight to Copenhagen as a back up. BA ground staff and baggage handlers are supposed to go on strike in July. If we make it to the cruise we'll be lucky! Akureyri is on our cruise on the NS - as Janet, @Red Haired Lady, mentioned. Hope the weather is good, and I'm finding the pictures very interesting. Jacqui, @kazu, hope they get your flight sorted out. Is it lack of flight crew? We had a very nice, comprehensive, email from Air Canada yesterday, saying they were looking forward to seeing us on our flights to Gander, no mention of cancellations, but ..... (I'm dreading the whole thing!) Sorry to hear you had a perforated appendix in a foreign land, @St Pete Cruiser, must have been scary, and I'm sure you are happy to be home. Thanks for all the news, recipes, and lists, today. Prayer list is expanding!
  16. Good morning all. Pat has an appointment with the doctor on Thursday and with the physiotherapist tomorrow. Depending on what happens tomorrow, he may cancel the Thursday one! He is much better, but still some pain in his leg. I was reading the Cruise Critic helpful hints for travelling email that I got yesterday and I forwarded it to him, although I don't know what more we can do about things before Saturday. There's no way I can travel with just a carry-on! We've been trying for ages to get a pass into a lounge in Halifax (6-hour stopover), haven't figured that one out. TA is trying to help. I am packed, but of course keep thinking of things I need to add..... Love the sounds of Monty! He would be just the right size for this complex,. We are only allowed small dogs, most of the dogs that the Humane Society is trying to re-home are large, so we have to pass. I think they said they got in 47 last week! Or maybe it was just on one day!! I don't know that I am all that happy with our heat pumps. They have this special energy-saving mode where, if there is no movement for more than 20 minutes they slow down. Fine in the house, but in the bedroom I don't like it - and you have to get out of bed and go near the unit to start it up again, it doesn't work if you just wave your arms in the air! Going to have to figure out a way to reconfigure that mode... Thanks for all the information today. I'm especially praying for Ukraine, Tana, Buddy, Curt, Sam, and everyone on the list. Roy is wonderful at keeping everyone straight, isn't he!
  17. I'm sorry the Covid count seems to be going up. But I do hope the staff and crew can stay healthy. On Koningsdam deck 4 aft of a set of watertight doors was the quarantine area. @cruiseaholic78, we had originally booked on deck 4 but decided to change to 5, midship. Hope we will be safe there!
  18. Beautician's Day - I have an appointment to get my hair cut on Thursday, I got a call yesterday to say my beautician had laryngitis, and as (she knew) I was going to be travelling, she felt I might prefer to go to someone else. Wasn't that thoughtful of her? Won't she be sorry, though, if I like the new girl better! Thanks, Graham, for the sermon, we had similar in church today. Must be the readings! PS Pat is feeling better, but has promised to still call the doctor tomorrow. PPS Happy Birthday @mamaofami!πŸŽ‚
  19. Good afternoon! I was dragged away to church, then brunch at the golf club, and and then to the Bay to look for new underwear for Pat (he is not a "shopper" we walk in, go directly to the product he wants, pay for it, and walk out..) Then home and I've been trying to do a bit of cleanup in the garden ever since,. All the forget-me-nots had to go, plus all the bulb greenery and early stuff to cut back, then feed everything, move all pots into the courtyard, because that is all DD has agreed to water, and then give everything a good soaking. It is 28C today, blast furnace as far as I am concerned! If you liked J&J's "I wish I could stay here forever" sign, just look at what they have in the poolhouse - they bid on it in the Prinsendam auction on the Grand South America and won! Jacqui, I hope you are having a lovely, relaxing time with friends and family and can go home renewed and refreshed.
  20. Pat was playing with our brand new heat pump this morning , and also giving a bit of instruction to DD for while we are away. He has the house unit set to 24, but I’m hoping the bedroom one will be lower(at the moment we just have the windows there open). We are also under trees, and have been comfortable for the last few years without AC, but that heat dome last year was a wake-up call to get with it! if I’m hot I don’t sleep well, and if I don’t sleep well I am very grumpy, so air conditioning is needed .
  21. Welcome, @Nickelpenny! It is very easy to get addicted to this Daily thread.
  22. Thanks for all the posts and helpful hints. I read some to Pat. We went to the mall for a gentle walk and a coffee. He agreed to call the doctor and his physiotherapist first thing Monday morning, in the meantime, Tylenol, heat and Voltaren gel. He is managing to get around and hasn't used the walking stick, although I offered it! Always nice to see some new faces on the Daily. Welcome, @ktbraun, and what a beautiful quilt! Janet, @Red Haired Lady, definitely still planning on being on the beautiful Nieuw Statendam July 16! We bought another 20 name tags holders on our way home for the M&G. The numbers keep going up!
  23. Good morning, I'm thinking of you all, but topmost, I'm afraid, is DH who could hardly walk last night and I'm trying to persuade him we need to visit the hospital or at least a walk-in clinic. With spinal stenosis and now sciatica, I'm not even sure we will be travelling a week from today.
  24. I like Spam and Marmite, not so much Vegemite, but that's an Ozzie thing. My DSIL, who lives in Australia, stocks up on Marmite whenever they go to England, she won't touch Vegemite! Both a good source of salt!
