  1. I would never board another Getaway/Escape class cruise ship for their constant swaying. I've done 11 cruises so far and have never seen anything remotely similar to the rocking and swaying of the Escape, even in calm waters.

Got off the Escape week an half ago- I posted about the abnormal roll that the ship had and was crucified by the NCL cheerleaders.

I forgot to mention that one of our group had 20 years in the Canadian Navy, ending up as a CPO. Most of his time was sea duty, Tankers, Frigates, Destroyers etc. He said that it was very odd that a ship that size should have that much instability. More so than a 300` Frigate. His wife-a Navy medic, spent her fair share at sea and had similar comments. We`ve got 20 plus cruises and will not sail the escape again. Service, food and ent. all about average NCL, and overall, we enjoyed the cruise!

  2. I really would not bother too much with Naples. IMHO it`s dirty and not much to see. Yes, getting a Pizza where it was invented is novel-but not that big a deal.

We did a private tour spending about two hours in Pompeii, then on to the Amalfi coast. This was by far the most beautiful section of the Med that we`ve ever seen. We had a great driver-if asked I`ll tell you. We had lunch at this spectacular mountainside restaurant that grows all it`s own veggies, makes it`s own wine and they threat you like kings from the second that you sit down. All the wine and food that you like-excellent for 25 euros. We stopped at Sorrento to shop for about an hour. All in All one of our best ever excursions ever.

  3. I think that the Southampton, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway an Germany itinerary is new for the Jade or I can`t find any reviews. Has anybody done this route and offer any advice or tidbits?

    How did the refurb go?

    -

Weather in that area in early September.

Anything will be welcome. Thanks in advance!!!

  4. Hey Ric! Sorry to hear this cruise wasn't great. I'd like to hear how the Sun cruise went as that is one itinerary I'd like to try.
Bosch-We missed Aruba-70 knot wind-shame, one of my fav ports-drop me a line if ya still have my email addy-Hope you guys are well!

OK... Back to irritating peeps with way too much time on their hands.

  5. 1st and Biggest Gripe!

25 plus cruzes and I`ve never disliked a new ship so much. The Roll (yaw) (sideto side) of this modern of a ship was ridiculous!!! We had the usual March winds and we have pretty good sets of sea legs, but I`ve never experienced the constant reposition of stance at buffet, dinner, waiting in line, etc. It wasn`t until Nassau and coming upon her from astern docked next to The Harmony of the Seas that I saw what was an incredible narrow beam on such a tall ship.(Yea, I know -No comparison-but height-wise they were about the same). At least10-12 of our group had week long sea-sickness

2nd Gripe-hallways that JUST Stopped. Go up, down, up again, up.Unbelievably poor ship-flow design!!!!!

    3rd Gripe

Itinerary-WTH goes to Jost (cancelled BTW) St Norman at 7AM? And we Had to return at 11:45AM at Tortola-Skippers Orders!!! We thought that we could get the later return (NOPE!!) The restaurants and shops had just opened!!!

    7-2 port stop?????????????

    4th Gripe

We did the Beverage/Excursion promo and yes enjoyed the 1st, but to my knowledge, every single NCL water/boat excursion was cancelled or changed. We`ve always booked private before and will go back to that now, as the winds were running 15-20, gusts to 25...Trips were makeable-IMHO.

    5th Gripe-Nassau-nuf Said!

6th Gripe-All the NCL Excursions were noticeably shorter than previous, privately planned trips. DO NOT GET THIS PROMO.

Finally, All cruzes are good and we pretty much enjoyed ourselves on this one (this review is more of a heads up to newbies than anything else.......B4 I get Flamed!

Pitch and Roll were fine with the wife and I, (veteran boaters andcruzers) but be careful if you have a tender tummy.

  6. Add me to the list of "Hate the new format". It`s way to bright and bold on the eyes. The old format seemed soft with nice blues etc. The "expand signature is dumb, Folks put a lot of work in and now an extra step. They were colorful and happy. Now you cannot do scrolling text (marquees) I check the roll call and sign off---Quickly!!!

That can`t be what the owners want.

Please go back to old format-Learn from Coke a Cola!

  7. No need for insults. This was based on news reports I have been watching non stop for three days. Hurricanes don't take sharp left turns and when I wrote that, the hurricane was already north of us. As I write this it is a beautiful day from palm beach south, just as all of the meteorologists predicted. Good day.

No insult implied-I lived in the Tampa Bay area for 33 years and only Donna came through. People became complacent. I even surfed Elena when it was a cat 5 not too far off Pinellas County years ago. The waves were that good. A Cat 4 storm anywhere near you is a dangerous thing and should be taken very serious until it is 100s of miles away. It`s the "bulletproof" people (yes I thought I was one, once) that are killed and put 1st responders in peril. In hilly East Tennessee they will call for a trace of snow and we get 6". Backpackers die EVERY year from exposure in the Mountains traveling based on inaccurate forecasts. Even now with all this great super weather technology!

As for your hurricanes don`t take sharp turns, we only have to look back a few years at Wilma -Sharp left and 2 hard right turns:

    Wilma_2005_track.png

I am glad you all are safe and fear for the Jax peeps and even you guys if this storm makes the big loop around that some are predicting and comes back your way.

Bottom Line, be smart be prepared and don`t trust all weather forecasts...especially if you decisions are responsible for other lives.

  8. Charley was a dozen years ago when the forecast technology wasn't like it is today. The poster he was criticizing was reporting the facts live as they didn't happen as a response to getting to the ports today. No one was talking about not preparing, they were reporting the reality.

Funny thing about "technology". It always perfect(best ever) right now. A dozen years ago, I`ll bet they said The Exact Same Thing.

There is No "reality" to Hurricanes or weather prediction. Finally, I was not criticizing the poster, only what the poster wrote in one particular post.

  9. Matthew will be non event from palm beach county South. By tomorrow morning everything will be back to normal. No need to panic

In my opinion, a dumb and dangerous thing to say. Hurricanes are notorious for doing exactly opposite what experts say. If a Cat 4 storm is anywhere near you, have a tank full of gas, a couple days of food packed, a exit route planned and watch the radar carefully. Born and raised in Tampa, I saw all kinds of crazy twists and turns. Elena comes to mind!

  10. Hi

Other than Burn the Floor and Priscilla whatare some of the entertainment options available on Epic .On our last transat cruise on Epic ..they had a very good Jazz band in Fat Cats along with a group of Flamenco singers and dancers ....wonderful ..comedians ..Beatles show etcetc

What is onnowadays ..we are going end of October for Med and Transat

    Anybody know

Just back from the Epic. Cirque and Burn the Floor were fantastic. The Beatles show starts at 10:30PM and this port intensive cruz had us up at 6-6:30 every morning to see some of the most beautiful spots on Earth. The Motown review was quite good, comedian -pathetic IMHO, The house band in the cavern-ok, burn the floor-entertaining-not overwhelming(they were always asking for $$ to play your request) various jazz, piano duets were excellent. A lot going on so yo can`t see it all in one week.

To answer your question-probably similar to your last Epic run. JMHO

  11. OK-All shows and 4 free spec. restaurants are booked. On the Star in the Caribe, we had no trouble just strolling in to any of the MDRs to have dinner.

Should we make MRD reservations for Taste, Manhattan Room etc.? TIA!!!

    -

Also, to any Epic veterans, what other entertainment would you recommend other than the 4 "biggies"? Also TIA!!!
