  1. Just off the Star a week ago. The drill,

(such as it was)...it was the least informative drill I`ve ever been to (about 15 minutes in the main theatre)around 3:30. It was really kind of a joke.

A lot of 1st time cruisers would have no idea were and how to gather at their actual boat stations.

I`m not fond of the full blown drill, but it is a necessary evil, like the dentist.

  2. We did the Bar Hop a couple of years back as we were really getting burned out on the usual clubs. You climb on a bus and a young local gives you a brief island description/history of the island as you cross to the other side. We stopped at 4 bars on the far (rugged) side of the island. Your 1st shot was free. Great food at one of the stops. You also get a T-Shirt.

    Well worth it: http://www.cozumelbarhop.com

The surf is pretty rough, so I don`t recommend swimming.

  3. It is all-inclusive -- if the drink does not taste right feel free to go back to the bartender and ask for an extra shot.

JohnInDC beat me to the response.

You can have more added without a problem.

    Keith

Kinda beats the idea of an AI resort, where you just sit there, relax and be tended to??? Getting up, waiting in line, and getting another 1/2 shot of rum...not my idea of fun.

  4. Several in our group thought so. We`re in our 50s...not looking to get blasted, just wanted a rum an coke to taste like one. A couple of other posts said they start to water down drinks as the day goes by.

I`m not looking to destroy any business, just curious if anyone else felt the same way???

  5. This is really starting to get quite irritating. I booked our March 16 cruz partially because HC was something new. NCL told our TA 10 (TEN) times that it would be open for our cruz as late as January. Lie 1. They eluded that your beverage package would be valid there like their other private island. Lie 2.

I`ll bet any and all takers a 6 pack of Belikin that this this CFE (charge for everything-NCL new logo) thing is not open until 2017...2018 if a big storm hits.

  6. Drinks, shore excursions, shopping in ship's stores, specialty restaurants, Bingo, etc. there is no limit to the ways they find to entice you to spend.

If your OBC is refundable (which I think most TA's would be) it can be used for the gratuity/service fee. You may also be entitled to a refund after the cruise if a balance remains (hence the term ).

Thanks but all shore excursions are booked: non NCL..booze is free, 4 specialty meals are free.

The OBC from my online TA is definitely not refundable, but they tend to be more generous than some other agencies. I'm good with it because it never seems to be a problem using it up. For my upcoming cruise I have $600 non-refundable OBC, so I think it might be time for a new watch or something.
    Don`t need a watch-thanks

    Any other ideas?

  7. Where is the map from Thursday that you are quoting? You post a map from Sunday at 4:30 after the storm had already strengthened. I would like to see the map from when they set out to sea.

Very nice-I`ve not said one nasty thing to any yet I get slings and arrows.

The below link will allow you to see what this skipper saw as it developed from early on the 6th. You can go frame by frame and watch the pressure drop and isobars narrow. I`m not a 1000' ships master, but I do drive a 30+`cruiser with radar and my crew`s safety is my responsibility. Could he have turned around, ducked into the Chesapeake, hauled tail out to sea I don`t know, but clearly he saw a monster coming and kept heading south.

Pay particular attention to 0240 07 Feb-developing hurricane force-Goodbye RCI thread.

  8. Look at OP's posting history. Until Anthem, he has been an NCL board denizen. He has only come over here to badmouth the Anthem situation.

Karina, I only have empathy for what you endured on your cruise and you think that the same skipper that got you into a pickle, "heroically" got you out , but please tell me why you feel the need to strike out. I am simply pointing out 2, TWO, II, LIES that were told to you. I have no other screen-names (actually it`s pretty hard to do from one computer now as CC tracks your ISP addy) and no other agenda. I would think that slugging it home at 6 knots would be irritating enough, but then to find out that "perhaps" and I say Perhaps, with 2 screws running, the skipper could have held the ship into the wind better and by extension, made that nightmare more tolerable. I am speculating as to when the port azipod went out, but parts of the puzzle are becoming more clear.

We should know more by the weekend. Glad that you are home safe!

BTW I`m CCL plat and also totally enjoyed the Allure!

  9. Not likely. :D

    You`re right-

    Lie # 2 from your trusty Cap`t.

    "Nothing but cosmetic damage"

    http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Anthem-of-Seas-Cruise-Ship-Storm-Damage-Coast-Guard-Inspectors-Royal-Caribbean-368534091.html

One of the Azipods was out of commission, all the way back from the hurricane-How many more lies are going to surface in the next 48 hours.

Still wanna sail with captain honest???

  10. I have but 2 simple questions:

1: Did the captain lie when he told the crew and pax that they were to expect 12-15 foot seas? In fact, and it has been well documented that 30+ foot seas were predicted on Thursday for the following Sunday. He was holding the weather fax in his hands.

    -

2: Being a veteran seaman, and I suspect the ability to comprehend that seas were increasing, barometric pressure was abnormally dropping, early on Saturday and looking at the below radar imaging, along with a multitude of other warning signals, it was very likely that his 1st seaworthy instinct was to turn around, but was given orders to proceed south into what became a hurricane. Hell I grew up in FLA and it looks like a hurricane to me about 18 hours before hitting the eye.

The evidence is there-I have nothing else to say. Unlike the unkind words said against me, I only wish that all cruzers stay safe ...and informed.

  11. Yes! Are people cancelling? Maybe I can get a great discount!

    Enjoy your cruise!

A forecast last Thursday night (Feb 4) from the NWS Ocean Prediction Center said that by Sunday night, the Atlantic Ocean off the Carolinas would experience winds up to 50 knots (57.5 mph) and seas up to to 31 feet. By Saturday afternoon, forecasts were calling for 65 knot (75 mph)winds and seas to 11.5 meters (about 38 feet) by noon Sunday.

The Anthem has highly multiple sophisticated meteorological systems aboard.

On Saturday has was fully aware the monster was growing, (barometric pressure falling, isobars getting tighter and a defined "eye" was forming.

He knew this on SATURDAY. Armed with the information that the beast was growing, he just headed right into it.

On Sunday at 1 or 2, he could have turned around. pressure system

WOULD LOVE TO HEAR 1ST HAND ACCOUNTS OF PEEPS ONBOARD-The NBC Nightly News said nobody was allowed off the ship-but it was a partial story.

As I wrote below: The experts are lining up and saying RCI Really Screwed up and people other than Royal Cheerleaders need to know

The 168,666-ton vessel should not have sailed southward from New York into the path of the growing weather system, which eventually packed winds of up to 100 mph and created waves higher than 20 to 30 feet, WeatherBell meteorologist Ryan Maue told USA TODAY.
