  1. A lot more than that. A lot of the OBC will be spent on things that cost a lot less than what the OC was issued for. Cruise fare is in real; $, OBC is in Marked up $ not to mention the extra revenue brought in by guests being on board the extra day and naturally spending more. If it has been going on since May it was obviously very minor and only affected a couple of itineraries. They may have had to wait for parts or waited for the itineraries that would be the least impacted to take the engine offline for a few weeks.
  2. CSR's, supervisors and front line managers unfortunately make things up to get people off the phone. happens at lots of companies not just Royal.
  3. Pretty sure that they would not have sent these out if they were not going to follow through on this but you go right on fearing the worst.
  4. The original notifications went direct to my cliebnts as well. I have no isdea if this one did or not. Take your cruise fare and subtract taxes and fees as well as prepaid gratuities and insurance and then divide by 7 to get the amount you will receive
  5. I received the notification on behalf of my clients for 2 sailings
  6. I received notices for Oct 30 and Nov 12. I would assume that all sailings with a cancelled port will receive the same compensation.
  7. While not common it is not rare either to take one of 4 engines offline for maintenance. Definitely cheaper to give some OBC than to cancel an entire sailing.
  8. The problem is that individuals (csr's and supervisors and even front line managers) make stuff up. When they don't know the answer many times they just come up with something that is plausable knowing that the customer doesn't know or they wouldn't be calling. They just want them off the phone. It's not just a problem that Royal faces. In this case they gave the wrong answer which made things worse instead of finding out the correct answer (taking an engine offline)
  9. Here is the e mail in its entirety. Dear Travel Partner, We clicked `Send' a little too quickly on our last email and missed some very important details. Compensation While your clients still get to enjoy their day onboard Anthem of the Seas, to help make up for the missed port, we will provide you with a one-day (1) cruise fare refund in the form of an Onboard Credit. This will automatically be added to your SeaPass account on boarding day. Any unused portion will be refunded to your credit card associated with your onboard folio. For more context, one of the ship's four engines requires maintenance which impacts our speed. While this impacts our ability to deliver on the original itinerary, we're confident that it will still be an exceptional cruise vacation. 13. If it is an issue with an engine they could be planning on taking one of the 4 engines offline in order to fix it. That could certainly reduce speed enough that would cause an itinerary change. BTW its more than a days sail. 764 NM between NJ and Port Canaveral. At 22knots thats 34 hours but at 19 knots its 40. That is also going full speed point to point so ad time for docking and slowing down, speeding up.
  14. No, the person posted that they were sailing at 19.5 knots and would make their next port on time. If and this is just an if, the Anthem was only able to make a speed of 19.5 knots and het original itinerary had called for her to make speeds of 22 knots then that would absolutely affect the itinerary without there being any safety concerns at all. There are many reasons why a ship may not be able to run at full speed. Perhaps they need to take one of the 4 engines off line for maintenance, that would certainly affect her top speed and cause the change in itinerary or they just can't maintain as high a speed as they used to.
  15. Once you book port fees and taxes get locked in. I've never seen them change the taxes for itinerary changes.
  16. Unfortunately you would encounter the same response with any of the other cruise lines
  17. Glad you caught that. Never an issue changing the name on Royals reservation as late as 48 hours prior to sailing but changing a name on a plane ticket can sometimes incur fees
  18. I lucked out twice last year and had no charges for any of the drinks on CocoCay
  19. Over the lifecycle of the cruise from when it is first released for sale until it sails port taxes and fees changed based on actual occupancy vs planned occupancy as well as changes to the taxes and fees imposed by the ports. The cruise line hopes that by the time they sail they have received enough money to cover these expenses. Sometimes they have more, sometimes they have less. When they are less they do not charge customers extra and when they have more they do not refund the extra. By the end of the year they are pretty close. When a port is missed it is at the discretion of the ship as to whether they refund the money or not. They will look at that sailing and if they were over in what they collected they may refund it. Each ship is it's own cost centre and the decision to refund or not is at the sole discretion of the management team on board. It is frustrating that something that is global in nature and should be treated the same regardless of the ship and governed by a fleetwide corporate policy is not.
  20. Maybe I should offer to rent my aft balcony on deck 14 for the day
