  1. Thanks to you all for the various suggestions.

I like GOARMY’s way ....only problem I see is that we have already upgraded our flights and wonder about cost of changing them again.

Thanks Pam, I’m sure it will all work out and I knew the good folks on here would have useful input.

Really looking forward to our 1st Regent Cruise ...a nice number of sea days which I love !! A chance to enjoy the lovely ship and food. Only need the weather to play ball !!

I think we may well be on the same cruise as yourself

We are getting off the day we arrive in Rio and all flights are arranged by Regent

All they have said is that we have to arrange our own transfers to the airport

We arrive in Rio on 19th January and get off the ship on 20th January and Regent arranged the flights (and Transfers) for that night !! I will "Go with the flow " !!!!

If they don't do right we will not be cruising with Regent again...it cost a lot of money so we have high expectation !!

  3. We do have a full day in Rio before we get off the following day. I rang our TA yesterday and she said we wouldn't find out until nearer the time but Regent is trying to arrange something for that day but its not confirmed yet.....she rang Regent while I was on hold.

I will eventually post the outcome so future folks will have some idea of what happened !! ..but it might nor be until we get back.

As far as I am concerned Regent arranged the flights and transfers so we are still their responsibility until we fly out and I would hope they will look after us. Different if we had arranged our own.

  4. Thanks to you all for the replies.

Last time in Rio we had a private guide for 3 days so felt we saw most of the city.....even had a walk around a Favella ...now that was interesting !!

Yes, I agree it’s going to be a long day and if the take us to a hotel with pool that would be very acceptable.

    Will phone them tomorrow.

    Thank you again.

  5. When we disembarked in Rio back in 2012 we were picked up at the ship and did a full day tour with Valeria from Rio Plus Tours

We had an absolutely fabulous day and were then dropped off at the airport for our late night flight. Highly recommend

Thanks for that info. We were in Rio for 3days a few years ago and did the private guide bit. It really is a fabulous place. I will look that company up though.

I really wondered if Regent provided somewhere....when I have info I can make a decision what to,do,with our time.

  6. Hi. I wonder if any of you can help me with info...

Our flights and transfers were arranged by Regent.

We are flying back to UK with BA from Rio and flight departs ay 11pm. I am aware that we will have to leave the ship quite early. I was wondering what past experience any of you have had in this situation.

Will we get a hotel day room or just a waiting room in a hotel with many others or ????

Our TA says Regent will look after us well....I hope that is right !! Been in similar situations on other cruise lines with varying degrees of aftercare by the cruise line.

Any info would be very welcome.

Thank you all in advance....and sorry if this Q has been asked multiple times previously but I couldn't find any info anywhere.

  7. We have never cruised with Regent before ( but have cruised other lines and accrued status to give us free laundry) but we have a cruise booked in January 2019 with lots of sea days !!!!! I would not like to have prices rise to facilitate included laundry for all and I appreciate long time Regent folks have paid handsomely for this privilege. If I choose not to spend time in the free laundry then I can choose to either pay to have it done onboard or bring it home to do. Considering the not cheap cost of Regent cruises it seems a wee bit daft to worry about the cost of the laundry.

  8. Is it worth the space to get the coffee maker removed?

It depends how much you need coffee instantly in your cabin.

For us the shelf was definitely more valuable. We would never have used the coffee maker.

These are my own thoughts, others will have different opinions.

It was also very easy to get take good away coffee from any of the bars.

  9. I understand that there are no coffee makers in V1 rooms. Other than room service or going into the public areas to grab that first morning cup, has anyone brought their own small coffee maker and if so, what brand?

Just got off Star. No coffeemaker in V1 but as everyone is saying...room service is the way to go.

The up side of no coffeemaker is that you have an extra shelf for storage...and storage is a bit tight so it’s a bonus.

    Enjoy...we did.

  10. Update... the M&G for the Feb 15 sailing is confirmed for today, Feb 16. 👍

Delighted to hear there is going to be a M & M on the second leg. We were disappointed not to have one last week.

Anyway, we had a great week and hope your second leg Is as good as the first.

Lovely ship and ports and some great folks onboard.

  11. Where you there in March? We were there in May and it was cool and rainy so we waited until afternoon when the rain let up, and it was still cool enough to be delightful.

It was early May but it really got warm towards lunchtime......but more than the temperature being a factor, it got busier and busier on the wall itself as the morning went on. We were pleased we did it early. Looks like we were lucky with the weather as we didn’t have any rain on the trip.

  12. Thanks everyone for your replies. I'll use Euros and CC. I would love to walk the walls at Dubrovnik.

Best advise I can give you is get off the ship as early as possible and do the walk on the walls as early as you can as it gets very hot and very crowded as the day goes on. I think we were in town about 10.30....not the crack of dawn LOL.

  13. Contact Viking (tellus@vikingcruises.com) and Cruise Critic (community@cruisecritic.com) immediately to inform them of this last minute development. Don't expect that they will learn of this last minute change of plans by reading it here (especially CC which does not follow these threads).

Then, enlist the help of Guest Services to organize your own get together. They are the only ones with the list of invitees so you will need their help with contacting the other people.

Ok, so there is no M & M. I hope I am not going to come across as rude but......I am not bothered enough to fight for an M& M on this cruise....I was just informing you all of th situation.

Something that does concern me greatly is that we are i a V1 cabin and have the Silver Spirits drink package. So far we have not had our mini bar replenished and upon complaining to Guest Services I have been told that V1 does not get mini bar replenishment !!!!! Luckily I saved the post that you Peregrina posted last August about your reply from Viking on this matter...confirming that all cabin grades now get mini bar replenishments.

Apart from your post I have an email from Viking in reply to me asking about this particular thing. It confirms that we should have the mini bar refilled.

To a lot of folks I suppose this all sounds very trivial but why spend money for something and then not get it.

This is not how I was intending spending an afternoon on a 7 night cruise and I am very disappointed.

    End of rant.

    Joyce

  14. That is very odd Joyce, can you give more details as to how you know that there is no M&M? According to the CC M&M page Viking will hold an M&M even if only 1 person signs up!

Sent from my GT-I9195I using Forums mobile app

This is the email I Got before leaving home.....

“This is just a reminder for the Cruise Critic Meet & Mingle aboard your Viking Ocean Cruises ship that you helped organize on the 02/08/2018 sailing of Viking Star. Once onboard, you will receive an invitation stating the date, time and place of your party. In the meantime, you can meet your fellow cruisers on the Viking Ocean Cruises Roll Call or Viking Ocean Cruises forum online at our Cruise Critic community when you click here: boards.cruisecritic.com

If you would like to update/change your Meet & Mingle party information, click here. You may be asked to log in to access this data.

If you have any questions about your Meet & Mingle, please e-mail us at meet_and_mingle@cruisecritic.com”

Yesterday a.m I went to Guest services and asked when the M & M was to be held....just in case I missed it in the Daily info

.I was told that there would not be one as only 8 folks had signed up.

  15. We are onboard right now and loving it.

This post is really to say that although I received an email last week confirming the meet and mingle....there is to be NO M & M on this cruise as only 8 folks signed up !!!! Very disappointed to not be able to meet the others on CC.

Everything else good and I will do a full review when we get home.

  16. We were in Dubrovnik last May. Euros were fine in most places but you had to pay in Kuna if you wanted to walk the walls....you can pay by CC or Kuna cash...NO Euros accepted. We changed some ££S into Kuna...and used them ! We just used ATMs and there were plenty of them.

Walls were worth the walk !!!

    Hope that helps.

  17. There are not enough superlatives to describe the wonders of this journey. The waters of Bora Bora can not be captured on film....one must be here to appreciate! The sun is intense and there are a few lobsters about and I do not mean those in tonight’s wonderful lobster, scallop, bok cho linguini.

Apologies if I have this wrong but....I think you did the Mont St Michel tour with us in 2015 on Azamara ??/

We are loving reading all the comments on this thread and can see you are having a wonderful, amazing cruise.

Continue to enjoy......wish we could be with you.

  18. NOT!! And we leave again in 10 days:(:p. I have been to my GP and given more drugs and now I am just waiting for them to work. Meantime, lots of napping--and coughing.

But it was always my plan to do the maps to show everyone where to go for the bus. One picture is worth a thousand words!

Somewhere nice I hope. Hopefully the drugs will kick in fast as you will be great.

You are right, a pic explains something even the thickest can understand...where words might confuse !! LOL

Not telling you which category I fall in !!!!

    Thank you again..very much appreciated.

  19. I wanted to do this sooner but mostly since I have gotten home I have been sleeping and fighting a sinus infection.

In two parts, here is how to talk from the ship to the Place des Armes where the 100 bus will pick you up. (The drop off point is slightly different because of one way streets). The route is marked with yellow highlighter and red arrows and this is more or less the route that we walked. It is not the most direct route but it is very walkable and not very steep--and it includes steps.

    Map 1:

Perfect. Thank you very much for taking the time to do that. We have been to Monaco. Few times but never done the bus but I now know where the stop is.

I hope you are feeling better again, not nice being unwell when on holiday.

    Joyce

  20. Place des Armes

The nice ladies at the info desk in the building that we had to pass thru to get on and off the ship showed it to us on the map. About a 20 minute walk from ship.

    Thank you for that info.

Re Lucca... As we had been to Florence before ,....a coupe of years ago we joined some other folks and did a tour to Lucca, spent about an hour and a half there, then on to Viareggio and Forte Del Marme (where I believe Andrea Boccelli now lives... or close by).....both very fashionable Italian summer resorts. All the places were lovely and it was easily doable in the day. Only trouble is you really need others to join you and as I have discovered Viking RollCalls don't seem as active as the other cruise lines we have been with....maybe partly due to Viking including some tours.

  21. AGREED!!! We rode the 100 bus into Nice on New Year's Day. It is a cloudless day We had no real plan when we set out for the day because the Chagall Museum of closed and that was what we really wanted to see in Nice. So, we got off the bus and just started walking along the waterfront in the direction of the Old Town. There were a lot of people with the same idea.

Can you tell me where the nearest bus stop for Bus 100 is to the port area...or do we need to go up to the casino area ?
