Has anyone tipped the people who do the laundry, and if so, how do you go about that? We'll be on the Eurodam this summer and usually send out some sort of bag every night. They do such a good job I'd like to recognize that. Are they part of the auto gratuities at all?

Great question, I have wondered the same thing. The last few times I've sailed I always got a note from the laundry staff in the basket with the folded items. While I always put notes of "Thanks and praise for the great job" on the laundry list I included with my dirty clothes I haven't figured out how to tip extra.

  2. It makes no sense that you can’t get something to keep HOT water in.  NMCruiser123 asked for and got Bar-Bells to work out with along with real plates, glasses and silverware while he was in quarantine on the Zuiderdam. Keep asking for anything that might make your quarantine a little less stressful.

  3. Probably the dumbest question of the year but do I have to have Zoom installed on my laptop?  I've got 2 of Abbott BinaxNOW tests from Optum and will need to take one in March for my 3/16 cruise.  Although I've go a camera on my PC I've never used it or Zoom.  Somebody please make me just a tad bit smarter!  thanks

I am actually booked on the Eurodam Feb 6 -16.  Anyone joining me?  Better question, should I go?  Or is this experience a life lesson of some sort I’m supposed to learn?

Not only should you go but HAL should comp the cruise for you.  And I think you have earned a Pinnacle Suite.  Not once have you complained and many many times you have given praise to HAL for all they have done to meet your wants and needs.  Most of us could never have remained as positive as you have been.

That looks like a delicious meal.  Luckily I was able to eat there on the second night of the cruise, and I even ordered a filet from room service once quarantined too.  Turned out quite good even in a cardboard box!

What an attitude!! 😄  You ought to be awarded a free cruise (Pinnacle Suite) by HAL for remaining so upbeat and positive.

If you are sick beyond the ship’s capabilities to treat you, you would be disembarked or medical evacuated.  I wonder if this applies to mental breakdowns?  That could be my way off…

This is the kind of sense of humor that will keep you from going completely bonkers during your confinement, keep it up!

As much as I love just cruising and don't even care about getting off the ship at ports it would probably be a big thing if I was told I couldn't.  And then add to that being confined to my stateroom.  Hats off to you for hanging in there.  Fingers, toes, arms & legs all crossed for a shorten length of confinement due to latest CDC directive.

  7. The one difference, huge in MHO, is that on the majority of HAL ships (not the small ones) have a love seat in their "veranda" staterooms.  On several of the other lines you have to upgrade to a mini-suite to get that extra seating and room.

    Renig,

Totally off topic question: where is this wonderful quote from? It is the best thing I've read today!

    Thank you.

    Margretha

Margretha I have had it in my signature for a longggg time and can't remember where I got it from.  I do though still believe it is a good way to live one's life.  Sometimes difficult to do, but never impossible.

.................... I haven't looked at the Emed site to see if it clearly states the expiration date issue since i bought my tests.  At least with the other company you are only buying two tests.  ......................................

Since I have a cruise in March as a single what "other company" are you referencing?

I was just coming here to ask about my 12-night December sailing on NA.  I'm booked on that as one cruise.  I have friends who are boarding for the 2nd leg (the 5-night portion).  Sailing out of Port Everglades.  I was wondering whether those of us on the full 12 nights will be treated as though it is a 7+5 B2B and have to jump through the hoops of disembarking, clearing immigrations, then re-boarding.

Only B2B I've ever done was on Carnival out of Charleston.  There were only 5 of us.  We met in the Lobby and once everyone else had disembarked, we were escorted off, had some official check us off for something, given new Sign & Sail cards, and escorted back onto the ship.  It was so nice to wander the empty ship for a couple of hours.

Yes those of you who have booked it as a "full 12 nights" will be treated as if it was just a B2B.  What "hoops" you will have to go through could vary and probably won't be set in stone.  It is not the cruise lines but rather US Immigration that determine those "hoops".

  11. Due to the line "relating to some of our guests, employees, and crews."  and the reference to Passport Numbers.

My feeling that this was just snail mail Spam but thought I'd see if it was legit.  I appreciate the advice for all.  Unless someone reports anything new I'm just going to file this in the good old File 13!

  12. A little help please. I received a letter today titled "Notice of Data Breach".  No where in the letter or on the envelope did it identify the company it was from. The letter stated "unauthorized third-party gained access to certain personal information relating to some of our guests, employees, and crews."  Included in the letter reference was made go passport numbers along with several other forms of personal data.  The return address on the letter was

    Return Mail Processing Center

    P.O. Box 6336

    Portland, OR 27228-6336

The letter offered free credit monitering and identity theft services for 1 year through Cyberscout.  Since I've never heard of Cyberscout I'm hesitant to contact them but theirs is the only phone number contained in the letter.  Did anyone else get this letter or know if it is really from HAL?

    Thanks!
