  1. Do you use one at home? The reason I’m asking is that there is quite the learning curve to master operation. All control is handled by a joystick on the left or right arm. A crowded cruise ship might not be the best place to first try a motorized wheelchair. The disabled forum may have some ideas and advice.
  2. Many people have physical limitations or different financial situations which make the expedition cruises a bad fit. It’s a good thing that we have options for varying needs. I’m doing a Celebrity Antarctica cruise in January 2022 on Infinity. It was just in Spain having work done on it’s hull and a few other things but didn’t upgrade any passenger areas. It was confirmed by Celebrity that the ship would be Polar Code ready. Let’s hope that Princess is doing the same.
  3. I have mobility issues as well and use a manual wheelchair. There’s absolutely no way that I would attempt to climb into a zodiac. Also, it would be too challenging to move around on shore. Sometimes you have to go with plan b and make the best of it. We are taking a Celebrity cruise on Infinity which has recently been retrofitted to meet some Polar Code demands. Hope you enjoy your sail by cruise.
  4. I completely understand everyone’s disappointment with the Odyssey’s redeployment. I was dealing with the same just a few months ago when Odyssey was sent to Israel from Italy. We were to be on the TA from Rome to Fort Lauderdale. You were cheering your good fortune while we were dealing with the sadness of yet another canceled cruise. And now things in Italy and Europe are looking up. Maybe could have made that TA. This whole Odyssey has been a disaster. Paula
  5. Not the least bit offended. I wanted to make clear to Princess cruisers that dining in the MDR on RCI is not a free for all. We have always followed the suggested dress guidelines from when our children were small through our most recent cruise in February 2020. How people dress helps contribute to the overall vibe in a venue. Just as white tablecloths, formal place settings and the wait staff in uniforms help define the atmosphere. And no, we aren’t cruising with you in January 2023. We’re doing a Panama Canal in February 2023. Hopefully no new COVID-like illness to deal with. Paula
  6. I have been on 8-10 Royal Caribbean cruises and nearly every dinner was in the MDR. While your husband may have worn “smart” shorts for dinner, they are not appreciated by many guests and not encouraged by cruise line dress guidance. Shorts are only acceptable at breakfast and lunch. Paula
  7. As far as cruising goes, what is the advantage to a folding scooter vs a travel scooter that separates into 4-5 pieces? Or for car trips? Paula
  8. My husband and I have never been adventurous travelers. We tend to take the easiest and most convenient way. Since I was diagnosed with a progressive disease and now use a wheelchair and rolling walker, we are doing cruises that might have more challenges at ports we visit. This includes embarkation. As we become less confident in our ability to manage my needs, we will switch to US and Canada centric cruises. Paula
  9. Thank you for the replies. With so many good options, we can eliminate the Waterloo location. I hadn’t considered the possibility of no drop off area at the front door.
  10. I’ve had 4 cruises from Royal Caribbean cancelled. The most recent was for a TA from Rome to Fort Lauderdale in October 2021. The ship was redeployed to Israel! Also had a 2022 Celebrity Antarctica cruise cancelled and that ship redeployed to Florida. Now that cruise has been booked on a less desirable ship. All the cruise lines are fiddling around with schedules and ships so it might be best to not make declarative statements based on COVID-19 challenges. Paula
  11. Or maybe debate over e-reader vs paper books. Same content, different delivery method. I prefer paper dailies and paper books so that puts me in the dinosaur category.
  12. Does anyone have experience with Premier Inn in London? The accessible rooms look good and the prices are quite reasonable. There are several located in the city, but I was looking at the Waterloo one. But others looked attractive as well. Paula
  13. I found the pictures and am pleased that I have the mini suite. It seems a bit more comfortable.
  14. In case anyone is looking to book a Panama Canal cruise, Princess just release their 2023 schedule which include r/t and ocean to ocean.
  15. Good morning, I’m the Op and want to thank everyone for keeping this thread alive. I’m a first time Princess cruiser. Several on RCI. We were able to book a Panama Canal cruise in February with an accessible mini suite just this morning. Does Princess allow you to transfer your booking to a TA? I do this with Royal. Thanks, Paula
  16. Thank you for the suggestion. I just went ahead and booked the mini suite. I felt a bit panicked and knew that it would be very comfortable. Paula
  17. I require an accessible cabin for several reasons. Now if I didn’t, I would definitely have a mini suite for the extra space and layout. However they are typically priced quite a bit higher than a balcony. My question: is an accessible mini suite much different than an accessible balcony? The space difference doesn’t seem to be that much different when you get to the accessible level. This is for Princess Ruby. Paula
  18. The vaccine passport system reminds me of the TSA no-fly list. Full of holes.
  19. Any idea when the Princess 2023 Panama Canal itineraries will be released?
  20. We’re considering a 14 night FLL r/t Viking cruise to the Panama Canal embarking on 2/21/23. It looks as though it goes through the canal but doesn’t actually exit out the Pacific end. We want to experience sailing through as much of the canal as possible but don’t want a cruise longer than 2 weeks. My question: How much of the canal does this cruise experience? thanks
  21. We’re considering booking the Bluff Cove Lagoon excursion in Ft. Stanley through Celebrity Cruise line. I use a folding manual wheelchair and am able to walk a few steps with the help of my husband. Is this tour doable for me, knowing that I won’t be able to interact with the penguins like the other guests can. Also, is there room in the vehicle for my wheelchair? Paula
  22. Thanks for responding. We have business class seats. I ended up calling Celebrity and they need to assign the seats. Also, it will continue showing “pending” until we pay for the tickets, which will probably be at final payment.
  23. We booked our RT air to Buenos Aires last night with Celebrity air service. This morning I logged in with American Airlines to select seats but it states that the status is “ticket pending”. Is this something that I need Celebrity to work on?
  24. We’re putting too much faith in the medical community to give precise information so that we can make solid plans for the near future. A hiccup in the chain can wreak havoc with estimates. Look at how a weather event in Texas disrupted vaccine distribution around the country. A new, aggressive variant can upend all predictions. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Paula
