  1. Vista was very clean. Someone was constantly cleaning the Havana area. However, there were very inconsiderate people who left THEIR room service trays right in front of our door. I don't understand why people just don't leave that in their room! One thing I hate is walking down a passageway looking at all the leftover crap that someone shoved in their mouth.

While I don't like having to put food trays out in the hall, when I've left them in the room, they tend to sit there ignored by the room steward for days until I get tired of looking at it... and then put it in the hall. *shrugs*

  2. Go to the Carnival website and login. Then go to your Manager and select your booking. Once there, look at the bottom of the page, where it says Specialty Restaurants. Click on the Chef's Table link. It will then take you to a form page. Fill out the form and submit it. That is all there is to it. Enjoy! ;)

(And no, you need not have booked your cruise through Carnival to do this. We use a travel agent and everything we need to do, such as booking excursions, restaurants, etc. (except for paying off the cruise), can be done from the website, if you are registered with Carnival.)

Done! I never would have figured it out on my own. Thanks.

  3. So how did that work exactly?

All my confirmations show "Complimentary upgrade" when I use double meta upgrades. So mini suites or Haven would be based on my inside pricing. You are the 1st I have ever known who has been able to bid.

I have used over 1,000,000 points over the years.

Your upgrade wasn't priced backwards was it? (meaning you booked Balcony and then called and they kept your balcony but repriced down)

Also my perks are/were always based on original category, so if I have an inside, double meta up to Balcony I still only got 1 perk since I paid for an inside, but if I am able to bid on Haven, I could get all the perks then since they wont be able to exclude some of them...I think?

My upgrade was just like I said. I booked an inside cabin. I used my credit card reward points for the upgrade. 60,000 points to do a double meta upgrade to balcony. Yes, I had the option to bid on mini suite and Haven.

  4. Has anyone who used the points upgrade to a balcony gotten an upgrade advantage email? Do they treat you as a balcony when bidding for upgrade or do they treat you as the level you paid for?

I did it recently. They treat you as a balcony. So, you'll be able to bid on mini suites & Haven.

  5. Agreed on your statement. And with these cruise ships heavily pushing drinks, they should be providing life guards at the pools. I also think they should provide life jackets also. The pools are much smaller, deeper and more crowded than any resort pool I have ever been to. I am a firm believe that people should watch their children but things happen and I never understood why there wasn't a rack of life jackets available.

They are also adding vests for kids and adults. It would also help if the pools weren't so deep. It's insane for the adult pools on Breakaway, Getaway and Escape to be 6 feet 8 inches deep.

  6. Mixed feelings on this.

I fear it will cause the already lax parents to be even more lax. the best lifeguards cant be watching every child at every second. The positive is that if someone is drowning someone with training will be immediately on hand to assist.

Of course costs will go up more than they already have.

The Breakaway drowning a few years back occurred at a time that the pool was closed and netted off. A lifeguard would not have helped in that situation.

Totally agree with more parents ignoring their children by relying on the lifeguards. I've seen too many parents not watch their kids at our neighborhood pool. I'm 100% sure one parent never saw the lifeguard rescue his son from the deep end...

  7. We were just on the Escape. Hubby and I both had the dining plan. Our son did not. So, I expected to pay for whatever he ate a la carte. All he ordered was an entree. We were not charged for it. They put it on the bill and took it off under our dining plan.

  8. Upgrade question. We are currently booked in a category OA on the Pearl. 2 categories up would be a balcony. Can I use the 2 category upgrade (10,000) points, or do I need to use the OV to Balcony upgrade (30,000) points?

    Thanks

  9. I attempted to do that yesterday, and she called the World Points number and told me I couldn't do what I wanted to do because I don't have enough points. I know that and I told her that and I also told her I would handle the points part and just wanted her to book the cabin for me. It took me a long time to find a TA who gives as much OBC as she does and is really very easy to deal with (until now). I'm about to leave on a business trip, so will have to deal with this tomorrow.

When you say book with the TA first, how do you do it? Do you book the inside and then upgrade through World Points or do you book the cabin you want and work with World Points to have it repriced?

Just book the cruise with the TA and don't mention that down the line you are going to use your points to upgrade to a balcony. Personally I didn't care what balcony I get, but I typically buy one of the higher levels of inside or oceanview, so I'm not going to wind up on a balcony on a low level. I've never gone in reverse, balcony to inside. Sounds like too much pain. If your TA is this difficult, you might want to rethink it. But like I said if you book inside now, the TA has nothing to do with contacting world points down the line to do the upgrade.

  10. BTW, in the past, My rep at World Points said I could have any balcony except an Aft.

For the Pride of America, we got a BA for the price of an inside cabin.

    Maybe we got lucky.

The rep really should not have said any balcony. It would have been better for her to say no afts. What you are able to upgrade to depends on what inside you pay for and what other secret requirements there are.

  11. With the current pricing, the saving would be just shy of $3,000. It's a 14-day cruise, so even an inside it's spendy for even an inside. That's why I'm thinking this is a good one to use the 60k points on.

I heard back from my TA this morning and she said she can't take care of it for me and she doesn't think I can transfer it to her after it's priced. So, it looks like I just need to gather my information and call the World Points number to book.

You need to book with your TA first and deal with world points later. BUT I would contact world points first to get an idea of what kind of balcony you can get for the inside you are willing to pay for.

I booked a cruise with a TA that was cancelled by NCL, and then I got it price protected for this spring break. I hardly paid anything for our upcoming cruise on Escape because of it. It was only later I upgraded to a balcony using my credit card rewards point.
