Spring Break is usually from President's Day in February through the Sunday after Easter.  With Easter being on the 20th of April and the end of the school year beginning in mid May, Spring Break will probably wind down in late March or early April.

Since you are looking at a 12 Day, there may not be a lot of kids on your cruise.  Most parents probably will not want to take their kids out of school for more than a week.  Keep in mind that more and more people are homeschooling their kids these days.

As as solo Senior Citizen type passenger, I would be comfortable in booking either one of your 12 Day cruises.

    Enjoy

Thank you.  However, the 12 day cruise is the one in the middle of the 8 day cruises.  The first 8 day cruise is out because of Presidents' Day week.  What I am wondering is if the March 7 eight night cruise will be during spring break.

  3. Not having any children (or grandchildren), I need advice from those who do.  I am looking at booking back to back cruises on the Escape during her brief residency in New York next winter.

We definitely are considering the 12-night Caribbean cruise that departs on Sunday, February 23, and returns Friday, March 7.

The cruise right before it is an 8-night Florida/Bahamas voyage that departs on Saturday, February 15.  Since Monday, February 17 is Presidents' Day and most/all schools will be closed that week, that eliminates that cruise.

The cruise right after the 12-day is the same Florida/Bahamas route and this one leaves Friday, March 7 and returns Saturday, March 15.

So what I need advice on is whether this March 7 cruise would be during spring break, or is it a little too early for that.  I know spring break can be at different times in different parts of the country, but I would like your thoughts anyway.  And for what it is worth, Passover and Easter are very late next year - Saturday, April 12 (at sundown) for Passover and Sunday, April 20 for Easter.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

  4. So sorry to hear how your vacation has started. I am not familiar with the Miami port and how early you can arrive. Perhaps someone else can address that. I will say that no port seems to be checking checkin times any more. So don’t worry about that. Good luck.

It's been a very long day so if my questions have already been asked I apologize but I just don't have it in me right now to search. We're supposed to leave on our cruise tomorrow. After a long day of cancellations and delays our flight won't be getting in until about 4:00am. And our hotel cancelled on us when I called to find out if it would be a problem arriving that late. So. We have no where to go once we arrive. We aren't scheduled to check in for the cruise until 11:00. Will they allow us to check in earlier? How early can we arrive for check in? TIA

    What port?

I'm on Apr. 7 and was looking forward to seeing Mario (and appreciated your info).

I've never met Goran.  Any comments you can share?

Goran is like Mario in that he is quiet with a dry sense of humor. We actually did not see him very often. I remember him being at the “how to run a floating hotel” presentation, the technical Q&A with the Captain and chief engineer, and at the “You Are Norwegian Now” farewell.

    Re:  Getaway

Mario will not be back Apr. 7.  Goran Rorbek will still be GM.

Correct. After I posted that comment, Goran happened to mention that Mario had extended his vacation and would be back April 19.

Just a couple of changes for the 2/6 sailing.

Mario Markovic went home on vacation and will be back on April 7.

Goran Rorbek steps up as GM.
Davor Pikic is back from vacation as F&B Director.

One additional change to the Getaway officers today in St. Thomas. Beverage Manager Eleanore went home on vacation and Dindo Ramos, who had been on the Jade, walked down the pier and boarded the Getaway to take over as Beverage Manager.

i was on the 1/27 sailing as well. this data was true for that sailing, but mario started extended leave today, 2/6, at the conclusion of the 1/27 sailing. i do not know who has replaced him or if it will be just on an interim basis.

one thing is for certain, however: it's a very sad day for fans of nintendo video games.

the getaway will no longer have mario and luigi at the helm!

You know, the Captain made several references to no longer having Luigi and Mario onboard. But not having children and not being young any more, I had no idea what he was referring to. Thanks for clearing that up.

We are also on the 2/6 sailing. I will post the officer updates soon.

Mario will be back on 4/7, he said. We said farewell to him yesterday.

Our new itinerary has us arriving in Bermuda on Tuesday (a day earlier than expected) early afternoon and leaving on Weds at 5pm, 2 days early. Beyond that we don’t know if we will slowly cruise back to NYC or race back to spend a couple of days in the harbor. All depends on Tammy’s track I imagine and those pesky fuel costs.

Thank you. As I said, I look forward to reading your reports. And if you can get a picture or 2 of the screen that shows the senior officers, that would be great. It is on deck 6 forward, just to the left of the staircase.
