Palma de Mallorca HOHO bus

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

Has anyone done the HOHO bus in Palma as opposed to the ship's tour? If so, would you recommend it? Also, would we be able to walk to the HOHO bus from the port or must we take the ship's shuttle bus to find the bus station? We will be on the Norwegian Epic and they charge $12 pp for the shuttle.

Thank you!

Depending on where you dock in Palma it could take you very long to walk. There is a regular bus (nr 1) that takes you into the old town (2€). the hoho bus is not worth the money imho. once you are at the cathedral you can explore palma on foot. it is lovely. i would descend la feixeina:

In this video you can see very clearly where the Norwegian Epic docks. It's connected to the Passenger's terminal (mixed use for Ferries and Cruises) by those elevated corridors. So you can walk directly to the terminal and once there, go out and look for the bus stop. The number 1 local bus also stops there

Thanks for the info and the video. We'll be docking in Palma in November on our TA aboard the Celebrity Silhouette. Can I assume we'll docking at this same cruise terminal? We'd like to spend our time seeing the Cathedral and walking around the city. It sounds like our best bet is to take that number 1 bus (or the ship's shuttle, if there is one). Does that sound right?

Also, any tips about what else not to miss would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Acording to the Balearic Port authority - http://www.portsdebalears.com - your ship will dock there (most ships do except for some Aida ships and other exceptions). 10:00h to 20:00h is good timing.

CELEBRITY SILHOUETTE BARCELONA

10:00 05/11/14

20:00 PONIENTE/PERAIRES

(P140)

You can easily explore Palma taking the number 1 bus, or the HoHo. If you want to explore the city itself, just get off near the Cathedral and walk. Palma has one of (if not the) biggest gothic quarter of Europe and also the seaside ancient walls and promenades, so there's plenty to see just by walking around.

If you want to visit or combine Palma with other parts of the island, I recently made a DIY guide for the Soller train and a little excursion to Fornalutx. You can see it here:

Muchas gracias!

When we are ready to head back to the ship, would it be difficult to find a taxi? (In terms of the bus, obviously I don't know where we'd be by then...)

Excellent information! Thank you! If our ship is docked between 13:00 and 20:00, do you think that will be enough time to do the HOHO Bus tour of Palma and the train to Soller?

I certainly wouldn' t risk it - do one or the other. The HOHO bus in Palma is the least interesting we have been on anywhere so I would chose the train trip.

I have no experience with the Taxis in Mallorca since I don't need them, I think I've just used a Taxi once in my life here! But I don't think it's difficult, since there is a Taxi stop near the cathedral.

But of course if you take the taxi just at the same time as many other tourists happen to want a Taxi back to the cruise terminal, this might be a problem. Come back a bit earlier just in case, 10 hours is a lot of time. Plus in November the sun sets at 18:00 usually.

13:00 - 20:00 it's a bit tight to go to Soller and do a little bit of Palma as well. Check the train / bus schedule very well and prepare a B-plan just in case. I guess you should be taking the 15:10 train, and arrive in Soller at about 16:15. Then take the 211 intercity bus at 17:35 and arrive in Palma at 18:08, then go back to the ship.

If you are in good shape, between 13:30h and 15:10 you should have enough time to walk from the pier to the train station (1 hour)...

...or take Palma's bus number 1 get off near the Cathedral (without entering) and walk to the train station from there (say 20 - 30 minutes via Passeig des Born -> Union Street -> Las Ramblas -> Homs street).

If you don't want to stress, just take the bus directly to the train station.

In a worse case scenario, take a Taxi from Soller to Palma Port no later than 18:00h, better to play it safe.
