Tender at Helsingborg

My sister and I are doing our first European cruise this summer on Emerald Princess. Fortunately only one of our stops is tendered - Helsingborg. My sister uses a Luggie mobility scooter and walks with a cane. She can do a couple of steps and I can lift the Luggie by myself.

Do you think Helsingborg will be doable for us?

I think it depends on what you plan to do.

Sofiero Palace is very wheel chair / mobility scooter friendly.

The dashed (-) lines shows which paths that are suitable for wheel chairs mobility scooters. Dotted (.) lines shows which paths that are unsuitable.

To get there, go with bus #8 northwards towards Domsten, get off at Sofiero.

Public transport is also disabled friendly like everywhere else in Sweden.

Another option is to visit Fredriksdal which also is somewhat available for disabled people, however it has allot of old buildings which might not

be that accessible for your sister.

Solid lines = "rolling friendly": http://www.fredriksdal.se/PageFiles/28169/FDL%20tillg%C3%A4nglighetskarta%202011.pdf

You can get to Fredriksdal by going with either of buses 1,7 or 22 towards Rådhuset.

Board the buses outside 7-eleven and get off at Juelsgatan (Fredriksdalsentré). walk down along Dragaregatan, past Tropikariet,

walk across Hävertgatan and you will find the entrance a few hundred meters further down the road. Total distance from bus stop is about 500m.

Assuming things haven't changed, when we did the Baltics on Princess Helsingborg was a tender stop, but the only people allowed to get off the ship there were those who were on the ship's tours. It is what's known as an operational stop. So you won't be getting off and going around Helsingborg on your own.

As to whether you can tender (if you plan to do an excursion) with the mobility issues and the scooter, I would post on the Princess boards to see what other people have experienced at various tender ports.

We are on the Celebrity Silhouette which also stopes @ Helsingborg, I also use a small, lightweight scooter ( a TravelScoot) and I was told by Celebrity that as long as the seas were calm, no problem to get off. I have never heard of a stop where only passengers who have ships tours can get off, I don't think I would sit still for that. Check out Celebrity roll call for April 23rd, a gentleman who lives in the area has posted a lot of good info.
