How are the upper berths.

I would appreciate any thoughts from those of you who have tried them. I know many ships have gotten the new mattresses.

Did the upper berths also get new mattresses?

Is their room to add an an egg crate without hitting your head when you sit up?

Will the person in the bed below hit his head when he sits up?

We cruise with our 2 kids in our room still, and it is way cramped in an Inside, Window, or Balcony cabin. A mini suite does give us a bit more room with the couch, but we rarely pay extra to do that. Maybe 1 out of every 3 cruises.

The kids said the mattresses on the upper bunks were more comfortable than the previous mattresses, but I did not confirm that. They are 15 and 10, and I trust the 15 year old's opinion. :)

There is room for the egg crate. It's not needed on the new mattresses, but if you wanted it, I suspect they still carry them.

My husband is 6'1" and he hasn't banged his head yet on the bed yet (knock on wood!), but he's careful. The greater risk of injury is when the upper beds are up on the cabins that have them sticking out from the side, and not up in the ceiling (like on the Grand)

Yes, this I should my concern. Thank you for this information. Is this still a risk if the lower beds are in the twin configuration or only if they are in the queen configuration?

Would it be better/safer just to leave the beds down all the time?
