Rare Denmal Posted March 20, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 20, 2018 We are on Viking from Budapest to Amsterdam in June - We are doing the ship tour in Koblenz, Germany - but are wondering if we will have time after the tour to take the cable car over the Rhine. Does anyone have any information on this they could share
Rare OneSixtyToOne Posted March 21, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 21, 2018 We took the cruise from A > B and the stop in Koblenz was very short. We were bused to Markburgs Castle and the ship continued sailing and met us further upriver. The alternate Ehrenbreitstein Fortress tour included the cable car and those participants were bused to the ship afterwards. It was one tour or the other. I can't speak to B > A. Rare notamermaid Posted March 22, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 22, 2018 It looks as if the Viking stop in Koblenz is always scheduled to take Marksburg castle into consideration, i.e. the itinerary will usually be a short stop in Braubach (Marksburg castle port) with bussing to or from Koblenz, or a variation of that. OneSixtyToOne has already mentioned their version and past cruisers have connected Koblenz with Marksburg castle in their reports. Hopefully somebody can give you a detailed description for your direction. In the meantime here is the info on the cablecar: https://www.seilbahn-koblenz.de/homepage.html The embankment station is very close to the Viking ship dock and the ride is fast and short, so you would not allow for much time if you just wanted the experience of the ride. However, the fortress station is a little away from the fortress itself and if you wanted to see the famous view over Deutsches Eck you would need to walk a bit, about 10 minutes. If you wanted to skip Koblenz or Marksburg castle in favour of the fortress you could always ask the cruise director on the ship if timing could work out. Yet, it seems as if the fortress has been incorporated into the Koblenz tour by Viking, sometimes, from what past cruisers have mentioned, so hopefully they can help you further. notamermaid
