chloe kitty Posted February 18, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2017 We will be in Columbia off of a cruise ship. We are taking the ships tour. Do we need local currency, or will US currency be accepted in most places? Thank you
Rare Turtles06 Posted February 19, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 19, 2017 Assuming that you will be in the country of ColOmbia, no, you won't need local currency on a ship's tour. We recently did a private shore excursion in Cartagena, and we did not need any local currency. The shops quoted us prices in US dollars.
Rare Peachypooh Posted February 21, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 21, 2017 We brought along around $300 worth of Colombian pesos and I just turned almost all of it back into the bank. Everywhere we went they not only quoted the prices in US dollars but the street vendors asked for it specifically. I think you will be OK with US currency however I did hear of one couple that ate at a local restaurant and when they were finished were told that the restaurant only took Colombian money. I would ask ahead when buying or ordering to be sure.
