Smoking seems to be a problem for all ships. I'm going to try a personal air purifier that you wear around your neck. Some of the reviews claim that it works quite well. I think it's got to be better than nothing. :) Saw the AirTamer A300 on Amazon for $45. At that price, I figure I'll try it. I got ill on my last cruise from the smoke in the bars/promenade.

Last time, they tried to ask smokers to maybe not smoke during the trivia games so that non-smokers could participate without being overwhelmed. That didn't work well and many smokers weren't even playing the game! Even when the smokers smoked only on the "smoking side" of the pool, smoke blew over to the "non-smoking" side and came into the ship through the sliding glass doors.

There's got to be a better way. Hopefully the air purifier will help. :) I wish they'd get smokeless ash trays...that would kill at least 1/2 the smoke.

Freedom is considered a limited smoking ship (per the Cruise Compass). There were only 4 bars where smoking was permitted, balconies, and open air decks (noted). I'm a non-smoker and found the ship to be very non-smoker friendly while still giving smokers options.

Freedom does seem to be for non smokers, you can only smoke on your balcony, one side of deck 4 outside, no smoking on the pool deck, you have to go up to deck 12 on one side. I think the only bar(lounge) you can smoke in is a cigar bar on deck 5 promenade, or half the lounge Olive or Twist on deck 14, there is smoking in half of the casino, except on the two formal nights there is no smoking at all day or evening.

It's the same policy' date=' fleet wide.[/quote']

I wish that would be the case. On the Liberty in the Diamond lounge you could smoke in the outside portion. We just got off the Indy and you could NOT smoke outside on the patio tables.

Just got off Freedom yesterday. Both formal nights are non smoking in the casino. You can still smell the stale smoke from the previous night, but at least you don't have smoke blown in your face. During the second smoke free night I actually saw an employee going around to any smokers and telling them about the casino being smoke free. Just 2 nights out of 7 doesn't seem quite fair, but it's better than none.

Glad to hear it! DH is about 5 months smoke free, so he'll be better off without the temptation. Plus, he loves hanging out at the pub at night, and I couldn't stand it due to the smoke in the past. Will be great to be able to have a drink there with him this time!

And no smoking in the casino on formal nights is a great start.

loved reading your review!! We are taking this cruise in April. Can you give me any insight on which days are formal and what not. I will be traveling with children also and would like to know if the dinning room is going to be feasible on some of the port nights. I would appreciate any info you may have.

Thanks!!

As someone who is now entering week 4 of being an ex smoker I think all ships should be non smoking full stop.

Good luck with your non-smoking, but also good luck for non-smoking ships! Cruise lines would lose a lot of money behind this. Carnival tried it once, and it did not work... :D
