Getaway Self Debark question

We have a group of 14 that want to self debark from a February cruise in order to make a 10:15 flight from Ft. Lauderdale. We have early private transportation arranged but for those of you who have walked off ship, is this feasible to do? The last time we did this from Port Canaveral we were off the ship and thru customs by 7:30. But never having tried from Miami, would like some input from someone who's actually walked off. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Not Getaway, but Escape in Miami back in March, we walked off, and were driving our car out of the parking garage at 8:05, so I would say we could have been in ground transportation by 8.

If all things go well, you could be off the ship and through customs by around 7:30. You need to be in line early with your entire group.

Last Sunday, all things did not go well. The ship arrived around 6:00. But there were delays in CBP clearing the ship, so self walk-off did not start until 8:00. And there was a line 45 minutes long in the ship to get off (we were at the 20 minute-to-get-off spot in line). We were on the curb at 8:40 and at the airport by 9:00ish (still in time for our 10:50 flight)

Thank you so much. Could you please tell me exactly where you line up?

Was that FLL airport? OP is disembarking in Miami but flying from FLL.

Thank you Thank you BirdTravels!! Could you tell me EXACTLY where we need to go to line up?

You are not likely to be off the ship before 8:30 even if you walk off yourself. Sometimes disembarkation will begin around 7:30 but it is usually closer to 8:00 or 8:15. It will take you about 30 - 45 minutes to get off the ship, through customs and to the airport. If you get held up in customs then you could be there a couple of hours. You need yo be at the airport and through security by 9:30 at the very latest and that is going to be a real challenge, even though the cab ride is only 15 minutes or so.

Make sure you have a backup plan when you miss that 10:15 flight.
