Machu picchu explorer

My wife and I will be taking a Princess cruise from Chile to LA during March 2018. We have the Machu Picchu Explorer pre-cruise package. With a lot of movement during this time, it appears that it will be very hard to take all of the luggage needed for a long cruise with us on the pre-cruise portion. Does anyone know how we should pack, and what to do with the extra luggage not needed for the pre-cruise?

I bet Princess will chose a hotel where you store your large suitcase. You can only take a daypack or other small piece of luggage on the train. My husband's smaller board case than normal was the upper limit! Princess has done this trip for ages and knows what to do.
