bonedoc18 Posted October 30, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 30, 2017 Has anyone been to Key West since it has reopened? What was it like? I am looking at a February cruise that stops there.
bhopal21 Posted October 31, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 31, 2017 Key West is open and needing tourist $$$. Ships are using the port and Fantasy Fest just wrapped up this past Saturday. I seriously doubt that you will be able to find any evidence of Irma come February. Mike
peter_krynicki Posted October 31, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2017 Sadly, one of the nicest places in Key West suffered extensive damage and I doubt it will be restored even by February Pjk
bhopal21 Posted October 31, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 31, 2017 A tree fell on the fort causing significant damage which will not be repaired. This has been removed and cleaned up and the fort is already open with weddings planned beginning next week. Mike:)
Fogfog Posted February 5, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 5, 2018 Any updates on Key West? The museums? Audubon House? San Carlos? Hemmingway? Given that Irma rolled over it with extensive flooding..
keywester33 Posted February 5, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 5, 2018 Im not sure where your information is from, but there was almost no flooding here. Other areas of The Keys flooded, but Key West dodged the worst of the storm. With the exception of a couple hotels that are remodeling and a restaurant or two, everything is reopened and fine. You can’t really tell there was a storm.

keywester33 Posted February 5, 2018 #8 Share Posted February 5, 2018 Googled Key West Damage Irma photosExtensive damage Most of those photos must be for ***** other areas of The Keys. Key West was very lucky and had minimal structural damage. Mostly larger downed trees that did damage and a few roofs lost. I live here. There is no damage now. Go to TripAdvisor and ask on the Key West forum if you have doubts. You will hear from dozens of people who have visited recently.

BNBR Posted February 5, 2018 #10 Share Posted February 5, 2018 I can confirm, Key West, you wouldn't even know a storm hit. Middle Keys are still fairly torn up but not that bad. Upper Keys generally looks to be in great shape, too.

CT Sean Posted February 14, 2018 #16 Share Posted February 14, 2018 Wife and I were down for a couple days in December. Biked all over the island and saw no evidence there was ever a hurricane.

jdvmd Posted February 14, 2018 #22 Share Posted February 14, 2018 I've heard many reports that Key West escaped (this is from residents) and their electricity etc. was restored very, very quickly. It is other areas of the Keys that took the big hits. Heading down this weekend to check it out myself. Will report back.
