Gisdorne, NZ

Recommended Posts

Is there plenty to do on one's own in Gisdorne, New Zealand, without doing a cruise line shore excursion? If so, what do you suggest?

kia ora,

Gisborne is a small town and as Kiwi Kruzer says has not previously a cruise ship port of call. its relative isolation has helped it develop its own identity and it has the distinction of being the first city in the world to greet the new year. The CBD is not large and you will get a taste of what small town NZ is like. Suggest you see where the ships tours go as this will give you a feel for been a on offer.

I agree with everything you say.

Its a small town, and the locals will be all out to welcome you.

Could be a call where its best to book a ships tour as the local infrastructure would not be geared up for handling that many people in one day.

Other than that just wander ashore and look for a taxi, to give you an hourly rate and drive around.

May be a great port to see the real "Heartland" New Zealand.
