Size of Aft Balconies on Silhouette

Hi, my husband and I just booked our first Celebrity cruise on the Silhouette. We're pretty excited about trying a new cruise line (we've done several on Princess), and I am also looking forward to our very first aft cabin. After doing some research, I'm pretty sure that 2 of the aft balconies are a bit larger than the others; however, I've read conflicting reports due to differences in the cabin numbers on the S class ships. Does stateroom 8348 have the larger balcony on Silhouette, or is it cabin 8344?

Thanks!

Sue

JMO but I vote for 8348 :)

I was really confused before booking an SV on the Silhouette too, but booked 7366 based on this 2013 post and pictures by Bob278, so I sure hope he's right LOL. Stateroom 8348 is above 7366 and so would be in the same stack with the wider balconies (4th from the right toward the center, not counting the corner S1).

It's important when looking at the photo of the Solstice below to keep in mind that the cabin numbers shown are different and vary from the Silhouette cabin numbers. On the Silhouette, instead of the wider balcony of Solstice 6312 (as in the picture), you would be looking at Silhouette SV 6314, instead of Solstice 7364 you want Silhouette 7366, and instead of Solstice 8344 you want Silhouette 8348.

You can also verify 8348 by going to these Silhouette deckplans and choosing deck 8 then clicking on the green star marking 8348 - it comes up "This balcony is at least 30% larger than surrounding balconies".

https://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/deckplans/Celebrity-Silhouette

Here is a picture of the Solstice that my wife took and I added cabin numbers. You can plainly see that there are a few cabins with marginally wider balconies, but all of them are about the same depth (about the same as standard balconies on the side).

I'm hearing both balconies are bigger. Is this true? I read a review of a couple that stayed in 8348 and they said it was wider than those around it. So confused:-)

Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

Just wanted to add to my last post, look at the 8340 on the Solstice in the photo above (which would be 8344 on the Silhouette) and then compare to the Solstice 8344 in the picture (which would be 8348 on the Silhouette) - you can see that both are larger, but the ones toward the center are the largest, so 8348 on the Silhouette is the one you're looking for IMHO. :D

Can anyone help with 1676 on the Silhouette, is this one of the larger aft balconies ?

Thanks in advance

If you look at C1 1674 on the photo of the Solstice above you can see it's larger - and since this cabin is 1676 on the Silhouette, yes it looks like it is one of the largest.

I also checked the spreadsheet sticky and found these notes for C1 1676 Silhouette:

SHIP: Silhouette

CABIN #: 1676

DECK #: 11

CLASS: C1

AREA: Aft

BED NEAR: Balcony

QUIET?: Yes, very

BALCONY VIEW: Lovely view of the aft - the front part of the balcony can be overlooked from above.

BALCONY SIZE: One of the row of widest balconies on the aft, due to a cupboard between 2 cabins

WIND A PROBLEM?: No

SOOT A PROBLEM?: No

PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: Since we love the aft I would choose this cabin again - particularly with a wider balcony.

Ship - Silhouette

Deck - 11

Cabin # - 1676

Class – C1 Concierge

Starboard or Port Side - Aft

Bed near?(balcony or bath) – Balcony

Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – Very quiet

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Aft View, no obstructions. You can see partially onto balconies below. Only one deck of cabins above and public space above.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Oversized, by maybe about 1/3 of regular balconies. We had the footrests for our chairs.

Was wind a problem? No, wind was not a problem.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? No, soot was not a problem.

Any specific problems with this cabin? We did not have any problems.

Any other comments? It's a long walk to the elevators but you get used to it. It was very quiet and peaceful back there. We had a little overhang but not much. We felt very little ship movement in this cabin.

Looks good to me, you should go for it! :D

Hi Seahunt

We are in 7366 in a little while, when are you sailing? This is our 1st aft and slightly concerned about privacy but wanted the experience of aft.

If you go prior to 23rd April I would be interested in your observations

Thanks

We won't see 7366 until December, so you'll be there first :)

I guess I'm not so concerned about privacy because I think if people look down they'll just glance and not stare - hopefully they'll be more interested in looking straight out at the sea. My biggest concern is that I have talked the others sailing with us into booking SV rooms too, and I really hope everyone loves them!

Please let me know what you think - plenty of time before our final if I need to change staterooms LOL.

No problem, I'll report back here when we get back. We'll leave it nice & tidy for you :D

Does the "cupboard," as it's called, end up making more noise inside the room? What is in the mysterious "cupboard" between 8348 and 8344? Is it something that the stewards go into a lot and bang around things in it?

I hadn't thought of why exactly that balcony is bigger until just now.

Thank you in advance! I found another "head on" picture that you might like to see that really shows the difference (it's of the Reflection but will be the same for "our" Silhouette 7366 :)

Ok, let's take a look at the Reflection...

Yes, 7366 is a larger balcony - on all S-Class ships.

On the Silhouette the closet would be in-between the SV staterooms 8348 (wider balcony) and 8346 (or 6314*wider balcony and 6312, or 7366*wider balcony and 7364- see picture above).

Since I haven't been in that SV yet, the only thing I can add is that I have found no complaints about noise in any of those wider balcony rooms in that stack, so that's a plus.

I did find one review posted by "Quasar" which mentioned category C1 #1210 in that stack on the Silhouette that said "No noise from stewards store next door, which is why this room has a large balcony".

Hopefully someone else can chime in, or we can beg frogsgirl to scope that issue out in April and let us both know! :D

Would the "view" be better from deck 7 or 6 in terms of looking at other people?

Sorry not much help here, but you might look at this video of the Eclipse on youtube that starts with a look down and shows the SV balconies while at sea.

In my case I chose deck 7 over 6 #1) because I was a little worried about the deck 6 SV rooms looking right out onto the blue roof of the Tuscan Grille on deck 5 (you can see this in the youtube video), and thought 7 would be far enough above that (though others who reviewed deck 6 SV said you get used to it and don't notice it at all) and #2) I needed 4 SV cabins in a row (for friends and family) and deck 7 was the only deck that had those available when booking. :)

Okay leave that with me, I'll go and look at this mysterious cupboard! .....if you don't hear back from me it is likely that I was transported via this cupboard into an alternate universe were life is just one long cruise:D

Hi Seahunt

The cabin 7366 was lovely, fantastic views. The cupboard was used to store the stewards trolley and we had no issues with noise.

The privacy issue I was concerned about was not an issue as there were very few people on their balconies, it was a cold weather cruise, not too wet but we got our coats on & hunkered down. If you stood right on the edge you could see others on their edges too but sitting down you were private.

As others have said the balconies are exposed to the element & we did experience some soot which when mixed with the sea spray/drizzle was unsightly. We refrained from going onto the balcony when it was affected for fear of walking through the cabin, the cabin stewards cleaned it a few times but certainly not everyday.

Noise was minimal as was the vibration/motion.

I'm glad we have tried it but we have booked a 1a for next time, we spend a lot of time on he balcony & having no cover against the elements swayed it for us.

Enjoy the Silhouette, she was beautiful & the captain was very humurous.

Thank you so much for reporting in :)

Hmm, much to consider. we invited friends and family to sail with us and I chose the ship and SV cabins. They are all depending on me - and yikes, it's too much pressure! LOL.

Thanks again for your stateroom opinions, and I'm off to play around and see what other cabins are available while I mull over if we should change - just in case. :D

(BTW Did you use the casino much? One couple is really into gambling during their cruises, and I'm already worried about the Silhouette casino - I'm hoping there will be enough action there for them (I originally chose because he is a former smoker and I thought the non-smoking casino would be a plus, but not if it's quiet/dull/boring!).

Hi Seahunt

Didn't use the casino, I have no idea where to begin! It was in use by quite a few folk though.

Enjoy your cruise whatever cabin you are in:)
