Our day at Beacher's West Bay beach area

We left the port area to meet Emil Webster holding a sign with our names on it. No problem, as Emil has a new four wheel drive four door truck and we made our way to the West Bay beach area. (most of you know this as Tabyana Beach) We set a return time with Emil and he was there when we were ready to head back to the ship.

The people of Beacher's were great -- they set us up with two beach chairs, an umbrella, and a free drink of our choice. Later we spent time in the restaurant having fish Ceviche and chips and salsa. The menu looks great, but we just had a few snacks. Prices are moderate.

We have our own snorkel gear, so no need for us to visit the near by Dive Shop. We had an aerial view map of the reef, so we knew where to enter the water and move towards the "wall" by Tabyana. We did over an hour in the water and it's the best snorkeling in the Caribbean (IMHO).

The price was $45 p/p for transportation, beach set up, and a free drink.

We've experienced the expensive ship excursion "Tabyana Beach" and our time with Beacher's was a much better experience. No big bus, just private transport by Emil. Emil is also a local Real Estate Agent, if you have any desire to move to Roatan, but he never mentioned this until he gave us his card at the end of the excursion. Nice guy!

Enjoy!

Thanks for review we are considering this through shoreecursioneer - $40 or $50 including lunch.

I love Beachers and Emil too, but shhhhh....keep it a secret!

We don't want the place to get packed with wall- to- wall cruise shippers like Bananarama is.

I'm happy to read this thread! I've had a rough time getting responses from Rony's Tours, so I just emailed Beachers. Is it about a 30 minute drive from Mahogany Bay? It seems rather small...Are there enough lounge chairs and umbrellas on the water's edge?

Thanks for the recommendation!

It's about a 40 minute drive. Coxen Hole is much closer. They have about 15 beach loungers near the restaurant with an unobstructed view of the ocean -- I think they can bring out more if they need them. They set you up with an umbrella if you ask for it when you arrive.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the recommendation!! It sounds like you don't need to pay for a snorkeling excursion to have an AWESOME experience in Roatan. You can experience just the same right from the beach! Are you strong snorkelers? Can you share the map of where to get in and the route to take?

HI S,

Below is a site that has a couple of maps that will help you locate the best place to enter the ocean off the beach; look for the hotel and in the water will be a floating trampoline. The map shows it with green flags:

We've snorkeled for years and spent over an hour in the water last visit (Dec 2017). We think Roatan is one of the best areas to snorkel in the entire Caribbean.

Have fun!
