Coochuck Posted October 25, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 25, 2008 Has anyone ever stayed in a balcony cabin on Deck 8 on the Pearl? From outside pictures they appear to have a smaller balcony. Comments please.
watchdiva Posted October 25, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2008 Hi - is the cabin all the way AFT (between the AEsuites), midship or forward? Letting us know the approximate location may produce more answers.....
Coochuck Posted October 25, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted October 25, 2008 Cabins are on the side towards the front of the ship.
mtwingcpa Posted October 25, 2008 #4 Share Posted October 25, 2008 Has anyone ever stayed in a balcony cabin on Deck 8 on the Pearl? From outside pictures they appear to have a smaller balcony. Comments please. Aren't those cabins right above the theater? I'd be cautious... I think the balconies are the same size, but the exterior is partially covered by a hull cut-out (for lack of a better description).
molly361 Posted October 25, 2008 #5 Share Posted October 25, 2008 I am interested in this also. I believe the category is BD and I thought I had read somewhere that they were obstructed or something but I can't find any info as the search is down.!!! Anyone know if they are obstructed?? Thanks
mtwingcpa Posted October 25, 2008 #6 Share Posted October 25, 2008 You can see a couple of these balconies just left of center at the top of this picture. I don't know whether they consider them to be "partially obstructed" but the sideline view would be a little limited. Personally, I would be more concerned about the proximity to the theater. Coochuck Posted October 27, 2008 Author #7 Share Posted October 27, 2008 I don't see how a balcony can be obstructed?
rubytue Posted October 28, 2008 #8 Share Posted October 28, 2008 I asked the same question (only about the Jewel) in this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=861650 The consensus seems to be that hulled balconies are a bit less windy, but no real difference otherwise. kkelle17 Posted October 28, 2008 #10 Share Posted October 28, 2008 We stayed in cabin 8540 BD on the pearl last year. No issues with obstruction and no noise below. No worries!
rubytue Posted October 28, 2008 #11 Share Posted October 28, 2008 Oh, I just found this picture: http://www.***************/n_star_17a.JPG Ok, I can't put in that link, but google "hull balcony norwegian star" and click images. Its the second picture. Its the Star, and its a bit older, but I think I can deal with that. I'll take it over the hulled balcony on the Queen Mary: http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/*****Test/hull_balcony.jpg

Any other hints about which web site it is on? I know what you mean about the QM2, we had a hull balcony and did NOT like it at all. It may be okay for transatlantic but not for us for Caribbean. I'm guessing the problem is its a competing website with cruise reviews, so the board just pulled out the text. I was going to send a private message, but discovered this board system doesn't seem to have them (or at least I couldn't find it ) So, lets try this: http://*****.com/5kx8m6 The link is just the picture, no written content from the site. Hopefully I won't get sent to the cruise critic naughty room for this ;)

mtwingcpa Posted October 28, 2008 #15 Share Posted October 28, 2008 I don't see how a balcony can be obstructed? A "hull" balcony would only be obstructed to the extent that you don't get quite the same wide angle view from inside the cabin. But based on the photo that someone posted, this difference appears to be minor. I don't think the cruise line refers to these cabins as "obstructed," but someone raised that issue earlier. AFT_LOVER Posted November 1, 2008 #16 Share Posted November 1, 2008 with what appeared like carved out large windows with no glass in the hull, that you stand behind to look out. Much like Dawn Princess balconies. No plexiglass wall that extends the length of the stateroom's balcony with chairs & small table near the door that you can see the sea from the whole balcony. BD looks obstructed since the hull is in the way. They were right atop the Jewel's name & artwork. Looked quite strange to us.
Coochuck Posted November 14, 2008 Author #17 Share Posted November 14, 2008 After all the questions about the Hull Balconey, NCL upgraded me to Deck 10...I'm happy! Just a normal balcony.
