Fjumpo Posted September 2, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2009 Me and a friend are doing the Eastern Caribbean out of Miami in late October, and right now we're looking for a decent hotel for one night in Miami. Preferably near the Miami International Airport, since we're taking a flight out of Miami the day after we arrive, and then heading back to Miami a week later for the cruise. We really don't have many requirements. It should be somewhat clean and have some place where we can eat close by. No luxury, but also no rats running around the hallways... :p A pool would of course be nice, but not required. Price range? Say around $100 or less. As I said, nothing fancy. Just some clean place where food is available nearby, and not too far away from the airport. We've been looking at La Quinta Inn East, and it seems pretty ok but not a great location when it comes to places to eat... Any suggestions? Big thanks in advance! :)
TrentS Posted September 2, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2009 Unless you get lucky with Hotwire or Priceline that's going to be very difficult. Anything with a rate of less than $100 by booking directly isn't going to be much.
Fjumpo Posted September 2, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted September 2, 2009 Well, that's what you get for posting message at 2.15 AM, when you really should be sleeping... Of course, I meant to write around $100 per person. Sorry for the confusion. Back here in Sweden, many times you pay per person and not per room when staying at hotels... I realize that for $100, you would probably get to share a room with some nice little non-human creatures. ;) So, a clean hotel somewhat close to the MIA airport and someplace to eat nearby. We're willing to cough up around $100 each, $200 total. Any ideas?

JohninDC Posted September 2, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 2, 2009 Hampton Inn or Homewood Suites-Blue Lagoon. Several dining options within walking distance, and free airport shuttles. A cab to POM the next morning will be about $25+ tip. Both are Hilton family hotels in a reasonably safe and quiet area. Good Luck!:)
TrentS Posted September 2, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 2, 2009 Okay, for $200/night then you have more options. If you want to stay in the airport area then the safest area to stay in is the Blue Lagoon area on the south side of the airport. As John mentioned the Hampton Inn & Homewood Suites are both good choices that should be well within your price range. Hampton Inn... http://www.hamptoninnmiamiairport.com/ Homewood Suites... http://www.homewoodsuitesmiami.com/ Summerfield Suites is another in the same area... http://miamiairport.summerfieldsuites.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/summerfield/index.jsp
JohninDC Posted September 3, 2009 #8 Share Posted September 3, 2009 We stayed at the Homewood Suites last March before our Destiny cruise. Great room, nice pool and hot tub, good breakfast in the moring. There was a small shopping mall about a 5 minute walk away with Starbucks, grocery store, liquor store, and several dining options. We chose Casa Juan for good and inexpensive Cuban food. Hampton Inn was closer to the mall. Good luck!:)
eandj Posted September 3, 2009 #9 Share Posted September 3, 2009 Since you are staying in October, the slow time, you might very well find something around 125$ near the airport. No way do you need to spend $200 for a decent place near the airport and restaurants at that time!;) For sure look in the Blue Lagoon area.
