Has anyone cashed in OBC ?

If you buy it yourself, you can withdraw what is left in dollars - we did that last week. I ordered it at the good rate, and there was a little left so I got it back to spend in NY.

For our return journey, I didn't order as much and had to settle the remainder of the account with a credit card. :(

As I understood before I went, if the OBC is a Cunard 'gift' then you do lose it if you don't spend it. However, as it is your own money that you are referring to, then you can get it back.

We are just about to book our onboard credit so this a very interesting thread to see. I have seen on previous posts by Rob that you can cash any unused credit at the casino less 3% (please correct me if im wrong).

How much credit is the conundrum and has so many variables. To start with there is $11 per day per person (transatlantic 2 people $132), pictures $25 each, Wine, Drinks, Spa, Duty free shops, souvenier shops, Todd English e.tc.

Oh and i forgot the Inch Of Gold Sale (if you dont like it you can send it off to be melted down at CASH for GOLD on your return to the U.K. to pay for your wifes Spa treatments:rolleyes:). Anything else please post.

Good luck...Fred & Sian.

Like Heywood says, if you've bought the OBC yourself, you can cash it in at the purser's desk at no cost. I have done this myself.

If you are given it as a gift, apparently you can cash it in at the casino with 3% taken off. I haven't done this myself but someone else on here has (I forget who).

We were given some OBC by our TA and bought some extra ourselves before we cruised. On the bill it specifed the two separately, the TA bit as non-reundable and the rest as refundable. We just got $ cash back from the pursers desk on the last evening (Sept 14th!) for what was left. No charge (and we'll make a decent whack on the exchange rate when we cash it in for £). We spent less than expected due to being lucky enough to sit on the Staff Captain's table, which meant we didn't have to buy our own wine for 3 nights out of the 6 when he hosted the table. Added bonus that he was young and good looking :D

What is the benefit in buying OBC ahead of time to just charging your purchase to your room which will then go to my credit card?

It's only of benefit to us in the UK because Cunard are giving a good rate of $1.89 to the pound whereas we would only normally get an exchange rate of about $1.60 at present.
