cascole Posted September 17, 2009 #26 Share Posted September 17, 2009 I agree with you. Especially since both ships do not have the new balcony upgrade. At least the Elation does have the Evolutions of Fun upgrade so at least Mobile is not getting shafted.Dave Elation doesn't have the full Evolutions upgrade, just the serenity area. mariemorgan Posted September 17, 2009 #27 Share Posted September 17, 2009 This makes no sense to me.. why would they replace a ship they just moved.. with another ship of the same class.. Unless I guess they want to take waterworks away from the Gulf cruises.

Kurbanfan Posted September 17, 2009 #29 Share Posted September 17, 2009 I know, Im scratching my head too. Is Fantasy newer than Elation, is that why they are taking it away from Mobile, so they still have the oldest ship?? I dont get it either. No the Ealtion is newer........wasn't the Fantasy the first fantasy class?
mariemorgan Posted September 17, 2009 #30 Share Posted September 17, 2009 Well of course they'll do a panama canal cruise.. they have to get it here from California.. but they could have done one to Charleston.. Farewell Waterworks.

jetskier Posted September 17, 2009 #32 Share Posted September 17, 2009 Elation doesn't have the full Evolutions upgrade, just the serenity area. You are so right, I just looked at the fact sheet and read Evolutions of Fun upgrade and assumed they got everything. Since she just went through drydock in March 2009, it will be 2012 before she gets her next upgrade. So Mobile is get shafted. To answer the other question, the Fantasy was built in 1990 and the Elation in 1998. Dave
NeedATan Posted September 17, 2009 #33 Share Posted September 17, 2009 I am so excited about Fantasy moving to Charleston. It will be nice to have another option within driving distance from Atlanta. I really like Fantasy's 7 day itinerary - Grand Turk, HMC, Nassau.

Dave Not just Mobile gets shafted.. anyone from Louisiana/Texas/Alabama/Mississippi who wanted a close ship with the Waterworks feature.. I guess we'll have to drive/fly all the way to Charleston or Florida to get it back.. which of course defeates the purpose of having a cheap cruise nearby. mom2tcdx2 Posted September 17, 2009 #35 Share Posted September 17, 2009 While nice news, I wasn't overall that excited about it. But that would give one more closer port for us to sail from. The itinerary isn't great at all, but the 7 looks better than the 5 or 6. Have never sailed on the Fantasy maybe we will have to try it out. Biggest news I got out of it was the casino on the Carnival Dream will be nonsmoking which I think is great.
TortieGal Posted September 17, 2009 #36 Share Posted September 17, 2009 Just posted in one of the other threads but I think this stinks for West Coast cruisers. That only leaves Paradise for short getaways and the Catalina/Ensenada route holds zero appeal for me. And San Diego is such an easier port to get to and from. Thumbs down from me on this move! obx_fintoo Posted September 17, 2009 #37 Share Posted September 17, 2009 LOL! You are right.....how selfish of me:o:D Hopefully you will get the Elation instead of the Fantasy........then you will be saying "woo hoo":) I'm good, nice to hear from a long lost cerveza drinkin buddy:) You forget, I'm old school. I liked the Celebration!:D Fantasy is just fine with me! Bring it on I say!

If she drydocked in March why did they not do the full upgrade that the other Fantasy class ships are getting? I am only an hour from Mobile and I do think we are getting shafted. Yes the Elation is a newer ship but it doesn't have the new waterworks. I think a lot of people who have booked cruises from Mobile for next summer are going to be disappointed. I don't know why John thought this was going to make people go "woo hoo". Only if you live in Charelston. :(
G'ma Posted September 17, 2009 #43 Share Posted September 17, 2009 WOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, but this is definitely exciting for some of us!! There is a three year window between drydocks. Her last one was in 2006. I am baffled also as to why the upgrades were not done since there was a couple of ships before her to get them. The only thing I can think of is that Carnival can promote the Fantasy better in Charleston if it has the Waterworks. Since Mobile is already established, then they could send the Elation there without any hype. Dave

I will travel an extra 2 hours to sail on Triumph. I like having a balcony. I would also say that the Fantasy was my least favorite ship so far.
