Bus to Accra Beach

2morrow

Recommended Posts

Coconut Beach is about a half a mile or so past Hastings Beach.

From Bridgetown you will come to Rockley/Accra first, then the Boardwalk, then Hastings Beach.

If you continue you will come to Cocomut Beach.

If it's not unbearably hot when we are there, we're going to try walking to Coconut Beach from Rockley.

If your first choice is Coconut Beach, have the taxi driver drop you off at Coconut Beach,

enjoy your time there, then start walking to Hastings & the Boardwalk.

Where is this place called Coconut Beach?

I've lived here for 58 yrs. now, and know of no such place on the island.

Neither do any of our taxi drivers!

We have a Coconut Creek Hotel(just before you get to Paynes Bay and the turtles spot)..

and then there's Coconut Court Hotel, in the Hastings area of our South Coast

..about halfway between Hilton and Accra Beach Hotel on Rockley Beach.

You jump in a cab or bus and tell the driver Coconut Beach...

he gonna look at you funny-like.

Tell your driver you wanna go "to Coconut Court, in Hastings" -nothing less. ;)

We took the blue bus to Paynes Beach. It is an easy walk to the bus terminal. Walk straight out of the port gate and keep walking straight. About a 10 min. walk. The terminal is on the left side of the road. If you ever have to cross a road on foot in Barbados, try to cross at a cross walk. The triffic is terrible and they drive very fast. Remember they drive on the left side of the road, so look to your left. You have to allow more time to cross the street, because of the speed of the vehicles. We bought our tokens at the terminal. You have to buy their tokens ahead of time. They do not take US$, or BD$. Only the bus token. The bus was clean, safe, and the driver dropped us off where we asked him to. The people at the bus station were helpful in showing us which bus we needed to take. The only negative is the bus is not air conditioned. It was hot.

We took the bus back from Paynes to the cruise terminal. A yellow bus stopped and told us to hop on. The yellow bus takes BD$. We said we only had blue bus token. He said that was OK. So we got on. This bus was very crowded, not air conditioned, and the driver drove like a mad man. Very fast, slamming on the brakes, crossing into oncoming traffic lanes to pass vehicles, etc. Very loud rap type music blaring. There was a 2nd man who stood in the door of the bus, calling to people on the street to see if they wanted to board the bus. My impression was that they were trying to take passengers away from the blue bus. I am not sure if the yellow bus always takes blue bus tokens or not. The yellow bus terminal is right next to the blue bus terminal, so we got off there and walked back to the pier. The Barbados drivers do respect the cross walks. Use them as much as possible. It's much safer crossing the street.

We decided to take a cab to Rockley, because it was so hot. The cab was $20.00 US. The beach is beautiful. We walked on the boardwalk. We did not walk to the Coconut Hotel, since it was so hot. We enjoyed the beach. It was rush hour when we wanted to return to the ship. We waited about 20 min. for a bus to return to the ship, but none came. We decided to take a taxi back, as we didn't want to be late.
