[Cruise Anorak]

Anyone know why there are no cruises on the Spirit this winter, is it going in for a refit or is she chartered out ?

There are usually at least one of the Thomson ships not in service during the winter. Last year they were in the Caribbean, Canaries and Red Sea - as indeed they are again this winter. They only have one ship in each location therefore one or more (depending on how many they have at any given time) is not in service for several months over the winter.

 

One of the waiters was telling us (in August) that he was due to stay on board for a few days after the last cruise in the autumn to cover all the dining room up and put everything in storage - so perhaps that means it is not in use over the winter i.e. chartered out to any other company.

I believe she is mothballed for the winter, probably in Cyprus as that where the summer season 2010 starts.

My wife and I have just booked a cruise on the Spirit departing 7 April from Limassol to Egypt and Israel. First cruise with Thomson but really looking forward to it.

We've just booked 10 March from Cyprus doing Egypt, Israel, and Syria so should be interesting!! we will be staying in a hotel the week before in Paphos ..hopefully weather will just be starting to warm up a bit...certainly warmer than here anyway!

We are booked on the Spirit on 10th march also,but we are staying in a hotel in Cyprus the week after the cruise for a chill out after a busy week cruising.We got the free drinks package and the hotel is AI too,so two weeks of not worring about a bar bill at the end of the holiday.

We didn't manage to get the free AI on the cruise (she told me they'd used up their quota!) but like you we got AI hotel....drinks on the ship are a good price and we don't drink that much anyway so we're happy with our lot!!!

I think we booked sometime back in April to receive the free AI. I don't think we drink that much, but the bar bill always says different !! I'm sure other people must use our cabin number!! he he
