We are sailing on the NCL Star out of San Pedro in October. Our flight leaves Orange County Airport at 2:00 pm. Does anyone know what the latest time is that we can get off the ship?

I think it is about a 45 minutes trip to the airport and we always like to be at the airport a couple of hours early. If we can stay on the ship until about 10:30 or 11:00 that would be great. I wish we could have gotten an earlier flight but our only other choice was a 10:45 am and that may have been to early. I was hoping not to have to spend four or five hours sitting at the airport.

I can't answer you for certain, but we just returned from the POA, and after docking at 8:00am, we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, then dis-embarked about 9:30 (We didn't leave HNL until 10:00pm.)

We're booked on the Star in March 2010, so please let us know if you had any problems.

btw...it appears that we are just down the road from you.

We have decided to use a car service upon our return to San Pedro to get to the airport and I am trying to figure what time to have them pick us up at the peir. On their website with a 2:00 pm flight they give us choices of 11:25 am, 11:05 am and 10:45 am. The 10:45 am would put us at the airport at noon which would be fine for us but if we have to be off the ship by 9:00 or 9:30 I would have to have them pick us up a lot earlier.

We got off the Star yesterday. You have to be out of the room by 9 off the ship by 10. Trip to LAX is under 30 min.

Thank you. Looks like I will have to tell the car service we have a earlier flight so they give me the options of some earlier pick up times and we will just have to find a place at the airport to have lunch. I wish I could have booked the 10:45 flight but here on the CC boards they recommended not booking a flight before noon.

How long did it take you to get through customs? Is customs on the ship or in the terminal?

We were on the repositioning cruise so we actually went through customs at a previous port and we just had to had in our declaration card at San Pedro... took 5 minutes. So I may not be too big of a help here. I would still think you could get off in 30 minutes. We took an 11:20am flight and could have easily have made a 10:30 flight. Security in LAX did take about 20 minutes to get through. They allowed those carrying their own luggage off the begin around 7:45 and we where officially on the sidewalk outside at 7:55.

It is different every time I cruise the Star out of LA. Last October, we didn't do any immigration check at all. Customs was very cursory at the door of the terminal exit. You never know how it is going to happen. Just go with the flow. I think they kicked us off the ship at 10:00 am last trip.

I grew up in OC and I know google and yahoo say it takes about 45 minutes to get to SNA, but I would add another 15-30 minutes to allow for traffic. Just FYI to help you plan.

  • 3 weeks later...

A few cruises have returned from Mexico since the last time I posted this I thought maybe someone might have more acturate and up to date information. Also another thing that has changed is that we will now be in a suite if that will make any difference. I'd like to tell the car service to pick us up at at 10:00 or 10:30 but I don't want to be standing on the curb for a half an hour to 45 minutes waiting for the car to arrive. Anyone know for sure what the latest time is that we can leave the ship and how long it takes to get though customs there at San Pedro.

last jan we had a 2pm flight as well..we waited 3 hrs for our flight..:(

we had booked a economy flight and to change flights would have cost us

$115pp...

on embarking on the Star we arrived at 10:30AM and the boarding process started around 11..i would think that everyone had to be off by 10 or 10:30..

we found that they had changed terminals and customs would be onboard in the Spinnaker lounge, forward of the buffet..we got inline an hr befor customs would open and were still about the 80ish inline..by time they open d the line had snaked back thru the buffet..past the spa and down the stairways....

i think if i had to do it over again with the same flight time..we d just sleep in and not sweat it..sleep in, have breakfast then hideout somewhere to avoid the crowds down in the lobby..

Just got off the Star 10/17/09, they had a easy walk off for US citizens

between 8-9am but you have to carry all your luggage (very quick, got

off the ship within 20 mins or so). Or you can get a color tag with varying time but I believe the lastest being 10-1030. Custom was just handing the customs form to the officials

I was on the October 3rd sailing in a category AD (suite) stateroom. The concierge will provide you with VIP luggage tags, and you can choose to use them and meet with the other VIPs at a particular time, in this case 8:30 a.m. in the Ginza Asian restaurant on Deck 7, and be escorted off the ship.

You can also choose VIP Easy Walk off if you don't need help with your luggage and can be among the first to walk off the ship. Again you would meet at a certain time, in this case at 8:00 a.m. in Ginza.

Since we live in the LA area and like to try being the last people off the ship (we don't have anywhere else to go), we chose to wait until last call for disembarkation, which was around 10:30 a.m. We ate a leisurely breakfast in Cagney's before they stopped serving breakfast (8:30 a.m.), went back to our stateroom and chilled until 10, and then sat in the library (very quiet) until 10:30 so our stateroom attendant could start cleaning the suite for the guests on the next cruise.

We did use the VIP luggage tags provided by the concierge, and by the time we got off it only took us 3 to 5 minutes to go downstairs, get our luggage (it was the only luggage still left in the VIP baggage claim section), hand our U.S. Customs declaration form to an agent, and walk outside for pickup.

I definitely think that you could get off just after 10:30 a.m. and have the car service waiting for you at 10:45 a.m., and even accounting for traffic you would be to the airport at a good time.

I have attached a black and white (space-saving) PDF copy of the VIP Disembarkation letter sent to us by the concierge.
