terryde Posted October 1, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2009 We just turned platinum last week and reviewing the rewards here. The best was by far the free wash and fold laundry! We did a total of 5 loads - leave them in the cabin in the morning and they were done about 5-7 pm that same day. I will take far fewer clothes next time. Free slot tournament is worth $20 each - that was fun, but we didn't win! We missed the free canapes in the cabin as they called, we said later, they never brought. We don't really like them. Free petit fours included choc covered strawberries - again, wouldn't have cared if we missed them. Various choc desserts in the buffet and at meals were better than that! We won't use the pic frames - but they look nice. The priority embarkation is wild - they take you to a private lounge where you sit on sofas, treats and drinks, and they bring you the sail and sign cards. Then they escort you to the front of the line (sorry, lots of "regular" folks were waiting in a long line and we were cut in!) and you go right through. Priority debarkation just means you can get off any time after ship is cleared. Still wait in lines with everyone else unless you go when it is first called (and we weren't in a hurry). There is platinum colored stationery too. It looked nice. Can't remember if there is anything else!

And I love chocolate covered strawberries! I would have loved that!
tootsiescurly Posted October 1, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 1, 2009 We thought the platinum colored stationery was tacky. Anyone can take a sheet of platinum paper, run thru a printer with someones name and call it stationery. Besides, who these days writes a letter on a cruise? Some other chachky would be nice! MikeM Posted October 1, 2009 #6 Share Posted October 1, 2009 Favorite here is priority tender, especially when we have a private tour booked. Second, embark-debark process. Also use the free wash 2-3 times.
jenms2000 Posted October 1, 2009 #7 Share Posted October 1, 2009 i was platinum on my last cruise and loved it. some of the barmaids make a big deal about it to try and make you feel special. vip imbarkation and wash & fold are the best perks!!!:)
dorinel Posted October 1, 2009 #8 Share Posted October 1, 2009 on my next cruise and can't wait!!!! I am looking forward to the priority embark and debark especially!!! I hate waiting in a long line to get on the ship, even though it has gone more smoothly every passing year. I am also looking forward to the free wash and dry - then I won't have to bring so many clothes. I think the best part is seeing that VIP designation on my sail n sign!! :D

Poomah Posted October 1, 2009 #10 Share Posted October 1, 2009 Over half way there and working on it - hoping to squeeze a couple short cruises in before our booked B2B - that would make us Platinum on the 2nd leg - WOO HOO!

I generally use the stationery to write a thank-you note to the cabin attendant and the waiter and enclose a few extra $$$$ gratuity.
Travel Alot Posted October 1, 2009 #12 Share Posted October 1, 2009 I generally use the stationery to write a thank-you note to the cabin attendant and the waiter and enclose a few extra $$$$ gratuity. I think that is a great idea! I enjoyed the canapes and strawberries in the cabin. Getting on board first allowed me to snag a cabana at Half Moon Cay. Priority debarkation at all the ports was handy. My only disappointment was when I used the wash and fold service...all my whites came back the same color of my khacki shorts....gray:( Had to bleach out all my whites when I got home. I guess the next time, I need to separate the clothes because I think the bag of clothes is all washed together. And bring less clothes.... I use the envelopes for that purpose. I would prefer the stationery without the computer imprint.
MszKitty Posted October 1, 2009 #15 Share Posted October 1, 2009 Priority debarkation just means you can get off any time after ship is cleared. Still wait in lines with everyone else unless you go when it is first called (and we weren't in a hurry). In my experience, we didn't have to wait in the long line getting off the ship....we've always been escorted to the front of the line. We go to the pursers desk, tell them we missed the platinum meeting time, and someone has always escorted us to the front of the line. On our last cruise (Elation), by the time we were ready to go, we were told there was no line (we were that late getting off), but the guy walked us to the front anyway, just to be sure. (The long line waiting for customs after you get off the ship is another story. I guess the perks end as soon as you walk off the ship...lol). Charles 3 Posted October 2, 2009 #16 Share Posted October 2, 2009 I'm not platinum yet, but my wife is. She is kind enough to let me "tag along" and enjoy her perks. The platinum waiting area for embarkation, then getting on first is an incredible benefit!
dclark Posted October 2, 2009 #17 Share Posted October 2, 2009 On the Valor las June, we liked the private galley tour. There was a total of 8 of us, got long tour, saw much more than the people on the main walk through.
wizard-of-roz Posted October 2, 2009 #18 Share Posted October 2, 2009 I have a question....Since Carnival is the parent company to Princess and we are Platinum with Princess and will be on our 4th Carnival cruise in January, does the Platinum status cross-over from Princess to Carnival? And, if not, at what point on Carnival do you become Platinum?
