Pungent Odours

Mercury Cruisers have complained about a strong smell of disinfectant permeating the air in and around the cabins and corridors of the ship.

Could this be a problem associated with the deterioration of the plumbing system which causes a back up in the toilets?

What steps have Celebrity taken to rectify this problem immediately or are they just tinkering around the edges and have conveniently put it off until the refit in October 2011?

Hi SAZ, what refit in Oct 2011? Has there been a press release

for something?

As for odors, I sailed Mercury last month and did not smell

any bad odors.

We have sailed on Celebrity many times.

I have NEVER smelled an odor on any ship yet,

despite people writing on these C.C. boards

about them. In fact, we almost cancelled a cruise

because somebody complained how bad the

Millennium was supposed to smell with sewage smells ect.

I am glad we did not cancel...as there was NOTHING to

that rumor at all. :(

As far as the plumbing systems getting "backed up",

I have seen that a few times (not in our cabins)

but, usually caused by people putting stuff in the loo

that does not belong in there.

The sewage smell depends on which part of the ship your cabin is located. We have sailed on the Constellation twice. The first time we were in a Concierge class cabin on deck 8 and did not experience any smell issues. The second time, we were in a suite on deck 6 and did experience the sewage smell a number of times.

Hi Lois R,

Apropos the pungent odour and Refit in 2011, it was information gathered from previous threads and posts about the Mercury that prompted me to raise the question.

Maybe someone else could enlighten us regarding the refit.

Cheers,

SAZ.

We also sailed Mercury recently(Sept. 13 sailing) and experienced no unpleasant odors. We were on Panarama Deck aft. Our toilet would not flush on two occasions, but was fixed very quickly (literally within minutes of our discovering it - someone else must have reported it). Our steward told us that someone put something into the system that they should not have.

Mercury was not a stinker during our sailing anywhere we wentonboard. But boy was she a smoker! The plume from her smoke stack extended for miles behind her the entire cruise. Being in an aft cabin, we were probably more aware of this than some.

Hi SAZ:) everything you read on this site about refits and such,

well, that would be rumours;)

And when you mention 2011? Normally the cruiseline does not

release information (even if there is any) 2 years away.

Since we have not even reached 2010 yet, I would guess if there

is any news, it will not come out till sometime next year.

Until an "offical press release" comes out it is all just speculation.

I agree with you Lois, there is nothing scheduled at that time and they usually only release the info as the ship is coming out of the drydock. This has been their practice in the past. I would be very surprised if Mercury is even in the fleet in 2011....
