I am overly cautious, but I am surprised that safety is not that high on the list!

So far I am the only one in the "Other" category and this Other is the main reason we like a port.

We are both divers so for us the Other is "Are there any great dive sites in this port?". St. Lucia, Dominica, Aruba, Bonnaire, Curacao all have great diving. Several other Caribbean ports have good diving but these are our favorite ports.

Never figured out what the big to do about shopping was all about. All of the dive shops where we go shopping seem to have the same stuff.;)

I'm an other also. I like ports where the ship can dock. Not fond of tendering.

 

The ports I remember the best are the ones where I got off the beaten track and just wandered neighborhoods.

We go to the Caribbean, because it's hot....I don't particularly care WHERE we go, as long as there's a beach and sun.

I don't give a flying fig about any "historical significance" or the culture....I go for the beach!

Cruising is definitely different things for different people. We go the Caribbean every January to get away after the holidays. We never go to the beach, and depending on the port, might not got off the ship. For the last 4 years, we've taken a European cruise as well, and make sure we visit every historical site and soak up the culture of the city we're visiting. It's the best way of finding out "one visit is enough" (for me it was the Baltics) or "I need to spend a lot more time here".

I know my wife's enjoys the shopping and natuiral beauty....but I am satisfied if the beach is pretty and theres a good place to get a cold drink
