Nunu Posted November 9, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Does swimming on a ship hold any attraction to you? Or are you happy bobbing around like a sardine in the tiny pools. Would you lean towards a ship that had a nice sized pool that you could actually swim in?

But on a more serious note, small pools on sea days do get very crowded. Would larger be better.....yes. Actual swimming, I find hard to conceptualize on a cruise ship. marybeth200 Posted November 9, 2009 #3 Share Posted November 9, 2009 I don't swim much. Pool size doesn't effect my cruise in the slightest. I might get in to splash around and cool off it's super hot, but I'm not trying to do laps or anything. In this case, size doesn't matter to me. Traveler353 Posted November 9, 2009 #5 Share Posted November 9, 2009 I would be nice to have a larger pool, but it is not a deal breaker. What I do not like is the pools that have the slide ending in the middle of them.
HoustonTodd Posted November 9, 2009 #6 Share Posted November 9, 2009 I would like a pool I could actually swim some laps in. I'm not talking Olympic size or anything, but something of a decent size would be nice. That said, I've never had a bad experience on a cruise just because there wasn't one, there are plenty of activities to keep me busy.
Rare jimbo5544 Posted November 9, 2009 #7 Share Posted November 9, 2009 After reading some of the replies, I had a another thought. We tend to stay away from the main pool (which would probably be the largest pool on the ship) to stay away from the crowds. As a result, we end up around the smallest pool. LHP Posted November 9, 2009 #8 Share Posted November 9, 2009 I don't go to the pool.....
Loves_Dogs Posted November 9, 2009 #9 Share Posted November 9, 2009 I can honestly say that we have never went in any of the pools or sat in one of the chairs around the pool on a cruise.
meluvtogocruise Posted November 9, 2009 #10 Share Posted November 9, 2009 I really like it the way it is. I think it would take away from the deck space for lounging if the pool of was larger.
michaelaz Posted November 9, 2009 #11 Share Posted November 9, 2009 I tend to stay away from the pee pot as well as people who think diapers somehow "contain" anything from a babys body.
balcony bound Posted November 9, 2009 #12 Share Posted November 9, 2009 I can only remember one time that we actually got in the pool - it was one of those times that everyone was occupied elsewhere later in the evening. We don't cruise for the pool, but appreciate that it is there.
MamaParrotHead Posted November 9, 2009 #13 Share Posted November 9, 2009 I just use the pool to cool off every once in a while while I'm laying out in the sun on deck. I prefer having deck space to a big pool, not like I'm doing laps in the thing.

Would you lean towards a ship that had a nice sized pool that you could actually swim in? In all the years we have cruised, we have never stepped foot into a ships pool. Too many kids and the sanitation issue. Even the hot tubs can become iffy sometimes and we limit the use to the adult only hot tub. So my answer is no, the swimming pool holds not attraction for us. bobsfamily Posted November 9, 2009 #15 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Pool use - rarely... hot tubs - maybe once in the evening. Could care less about the size. Do wish they were fresh water but understand.

I wouldn't travel way out of the way to get on a ship with one....but it would be nice to have for sure. :)What she said. But it would be pointless having one large enough to swim in, unless it had lanes reserved to do so. Can't really swim when there's a hundred kids in the pool! Which is why I hung out in the aft adults only sardine tin. :D
Martini Mom Posted November 9, 2009 #17 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Nope. I have a pool at home that I swim in all the time. I only use the cruise ship pools for a quick cool off.

I probably won't go in any of the Splendor pools next month. If I don't have my son or my nephews... I couidn't care less about a pool. Heck, the swimming pool in my backyard has lost its attraction! :D

And I normally just use the showers on the ship to cool off.......they are not sea water..........

bobsfamily Posted November 9, 2009 #21 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Heck, the swimming pool in my backyard has lost its attraction! :D I was just talking the wife about removing the pool since the kids are grown/almost grown.. I think I get in it about 3-4 times a year... about $300 a dip... WOW that's a cruise for 2!
EmmasNana Posted November 9, 2009 #22 Share Posted November 9, 2009 I don't get in public pools, so I wouldn't care.

JoeMissile Posted November 9, 2009 #24 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Would you lean towards a ship that had a nice sized pool that you could actually swim in? What cruise line / ship's have a "nice sized" pool and how large is it? I believe one of the reasons for a smaller pool size has to do with the passenger safety, and the ships stability. In rough sea's the slosh factor would be tremendous. In addition water is very, very heavy. Placing a large pool on the top of a cruise ship is probably one of the dumbest things one can do as far as ship's stability. Just the water in a "small" Carnival-sized pool weighs about 50 tons. An Olympic sized pool (or 3) on the Lido deck would be a" Poseidon adventure" in the making.
