I believe the cover charge places are: Le Bistro Shanghai's Wasabi Teppanyaki La Cucina The Courtyard Grill I'll know more in July!
angel 77 Posted November 15, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted November 15, 2009 Thanks for the reply, I would say that there will be a charge at most. The one thing that I am not a fan of with NCL.

Yet another in the seemingly endless list of posters that simply do not understand NCL or Freestyle. For the umpteenth time, NCL offers the same or more free dining options as any other cruise line. They also offer more specialty restaurant options for a fee. Get it?

I guess some people think they are going to starve to death if they don't pay to eat in the specialty restaurants. No one is going to hold a gun to their heads, forcing them to shell out more money to eat. Your basic food (main dining rooms, buffet, 24-hour cafe, pool-side grill, room service, sail-away BBQ, chocolate buffet..., IS included in the price of your fare, people! If you CHOOSE to have that little extra something, specialty restaurants are offered - You have the freedom to choose.

Roxie2008 Posted November 24, 2009 #8 Share Posted November 24, 2009 I'm new to this as our first cruise will be on the Epic.....Do you have any idea how much the surcharge amounts are for the restaurants?
njhorseman Posted November 24, 2009 #9 Share Posted November 24, 2009 I'm new to this as our first cruise will be on the Epic.....Do you have any idea how much the surcharge amounts are for the restaurants? The surcharges have not yet been announced, but on other NCL ships they currently range from $10 (Tex/Mex and Italian) to $25 (Cagney's Steakhouse), with others between those two amounts. njhorseman Posted November 24, 2009 #10 Share Posted November 24, 2009 No they dont. With the possible exception of RCI's new Oasis of the Seas, which has not yet carried a paying passenger, would you care to offer the names of any mass market cruise lines/ships that offer more no additional charge and surcharged options than NCL? sjbdtz Posted November 27, 2009 #12 Share Posted November 27, 2009 Sure, Celebrity, Princess, Holland America, Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Costa, to name a few. Please explain. These all have additional service charge / gratuities, surcharge restaurants, bingo which costs extra. None of them offer free gambling in their casinos.... and they all charge for alcohol..... pyrogy Posted November 28, 2009 #13 Share Posted November 28, 2009 As it is my post that Brad1185 has disagreed with (without providing anything by way of specifics, of course), I may as well way in on this: Please Brad1185, enlighten us with details. TravlGrl Posted December 30, 2009 #15 Share Posted December 30, 2009 Has there been any update on what the actual surcharges will be? I know there is a range, but I'm curious if they've determined the specific surcharges per restaurant yet. I viewed the November 6th NCL Epic presentation on NCL.com today and they said they'd be announcing it w/in a couple of weeks. That was 8 weeks ago.

As for the other surcharge restaurants, I can't imagine NCL charging more money for the equivalent restaurants found on other NCL ships - Le Bistro on Epic should be the same as Le Bistro on the other ships ($15 p.p.), Italian restaurant on Epic should be $10 p.p. like the Italian restaurants on the other ships, ect. Hmm...on the Nov 6th presentation, they said Speigel will start at $15/person. I was led to believe it would be based on seating location and could cost more than that for premium seats. Since I haven't sailed NCL yet, I didn't know the cost of Le Bistro on other ships, so that's good info to have. Thank you!
gkbiiii Posted December 30, 2009 #18 Share Posted December 30, 2009 No they dont. On the Disney Magic all was covered (three different dining rooms)(including sodas), with only a small $15 fee for Palo. With NCL all these fees add up fast. So why not pay more upfront, to get a better, more inclusive product? From my personal experience dining on the Magic is better than everything I have found on RCCL & Celebrity, with the one outstanding exception of Murono, on the Century. Thus, next week I will be booking Transatlantic on the Magic for April, rather than get a $300 onboard credit with Royal. ;)

No, you don't get soda for free but you still come out way-ahead if you pay for a NCL soda card when comparing the price of a Disney Cruise to a NCL Cruise. Cross that. I remember helping someone I know price a trip for 4 on a Disney cruise and it was more than a trip for 4 in a Courtyard Villa on the Pearl during the same period. CV, not Penthouse. IIRC they ended up skipping the cruising idea and went to the actual Disney for a week instead. :p

pokeypoke Posted December 31, 2009 #24 Share Posted December 31, 2009 According to NCL's updated website, specialty restaurants now range in price from $10-$30 rather than $10-$25. So, it could mean Cirque Dreams could range in price from $15-$30 p.p. and it could also mean Cagney's and the Japanese Steakhouse are going up in price by $5. If LeBistro has gone from $15 to $25 on at least one ship, it will not be long before it is $25 p.p. fleet wide. Any thoughts on this? Here is the update for specialty restaurants: "How about a night "on the town"? Every ship in our fleet also offers true Texas-style steakhouses, gourmet French bistros, Italian trattorias, Japanese sushi bars, authentic teppanyaki grills and that's just the beginning. Some ships offer sophisticated supper clubs with dinner and dancing, Cirque Dreams™ and Dinner shows with world-class acrobats and more. These specialty restaurants are optional and have a cover charge that ranges from $10 to $30 per guest."
ddakrt Posted December 31, 2009 #25 Share Posted December 31, 2009 Is the dining package fleet wide? I remember reading that you get 4 dinners for $75 or something. I'd definitely be up for that.
