Cape Liberty Parking Problems

Oh wow... Is that still an issue? I thought they solved that problem a LONG time ago after the first couple incidents.

Actually it is an issue again. They had put up screens to prevent the overspray which worked for a while, but they were torn apart by wind and the problem came back. They (the shipyard and parking co.) acknowledged the problem, but never said if they were taking steps to correct it again. That is why we (who are leaving next week) are anxious to hear from people who just got off the ship.

if people are worried go out and buy a car cover, they aren't expensive and if the proper size is bought and they are properly put on it will keep your car completely safe.

Depending on the length of your cruise some people on these boards have recommended staying in a nearby hotel the night prior that offers parking and shuttle service to the pier. Apparently it can be considerably cheaper.

what hotels are these? that might work for us--although we are only a short drive from LI, we are concerned about the paint issue...

Courtesy of someone on our roll call.....

The hotel was Best Western (Airport West) in Newark NJ. Phone is 973-621-6200. Call and ask for the Stay & Sail package. It includes parking for up to 10 days and free shuttle to and from the port.

Another option is the Carlson Country Inn and Suites that's a fairly standard hotel with tranportation to and from the port. Next to a Ruby tuesdays for food and across from a large mall if you need last minute things. We've stayed there three times and had no problems. Left our car there and it's gated and very safe.

Come to the East Coast departures board for more in depth discussion of these issues. One of our cruisers found parking at Newark Airport for about $10/day and took the shuttle to the Sheraton where they picked up a cruise shuttle for $15/pp. Country Inns has gotten consistently good reviews. Best Western has been a mixed bag. Fairfield Inn has good park/sleep deals through http://www.trinityreservations.com/ and the person who did this was very satisfied.
