September Weather????

We are doing Rhapsody of the Seas from Vancouver to Hawaii next September, but are thinking about also doing the 7 night Alaska cruise from Seattle (Sept 10-17) prior to that one. Since that is the last Alaska cruise of the season, is the weather most likely to be very cool, windy, and rainy, as some others have reported in their reviews? Or is it just kind of a hit and miss thing, as most weather is? Any advice/info is most welcome. Thank you.

If Sept 2008 was any indication it was mostly rainy and foggy, on the second last trip of the year. We still had a great time and did everything we wanted to do. It was a bit rough 2 of the nights, but that can happen any time of year between top of Van Isl and the Charlottes.

We were on the last cruise of the season (Sept. 2008, Celebrity Millennium) and we had beautiful weather!! The only rain we had was in Sitka. Ours was a 14 day repo cruise, Vancouver to San Diego. The only rough seas day was between Seattle and San Francisco. We had 18-20 ft. seas!! But then again the weather off the Wash/Oregon coast can be iffy that time of year.

BTW, we were in Alaska in September, 2006 and the weather was also beautiful. But really its just a crap shoot, could have turned out very different.

Be sure to take the White Pass RR in Skagway, It is a beautiful ride and yes, we did have sunshine!! We did the morning ride, those that did the afternoon had some fog move in on them.

We did a 7-nighter our of Seattle Sept 5 - 12, and we had very good weather. On several days it was short-sleeve weather and the sun was shining. We had a few overcast, but pleasant, days and we had one dreary, rainy, cold, yucky day.

I think we lucked out a bit with the weather. There were several times where we went on excursions slightly outside of the port and had great weather where back at the port it was raining.

The colors were beautiful, the end-of-season sales were wonderful, and it wasn't overly crowded. I'd probably go again if the price, itinerary, and ship were right.

This time we're going in June, not because of the weather, but because the price, itinerary, and ship were right.

Just like at home, the only thing predictable about the weather is that it can be unpredictable!

You never know about the weather in alaska. It most likely will be colder and rainier than if you went in July. Just be careful about what shore excursions you book, since if they do not cancel them for weather, and you feel it is too cold to go, lets say whalewatching, your stuck.

You may want to rethink doing the B2B. There was a thread in the Carnival section and one couple from Australia wanted to do the same thing on the Carnival Spirit; however, after much conflicting information, it was confirmed that a B2B leaving from Seattle and ending in Hawaii contravenes the Passenger Vessel Services Act. Even though the ship stops in Vancouver, you would be embarking in Seattle and disembarking in Hawaii, which is not allowed.

The only way you would be able to do something like this would be to do it on two different cruise lines (RCCL to Alaska and Carnival to Hawaii for example), or if you were to do a round trip from Vancouver and then a Vancouver to Hawaii cruise.

Here's the thread:

Because you are asking about weather and not only weather but weather in Alaska no one can tell you what to expect.

I have been to Alaska more than once in September and experieinced different weather each time but I can say the same thing about Alaska in July.

Yes, you may indeed experieince rain, cooler temperatures and/or fog, but you might also experience more moderate temperatures, and no rain and sunny days.

It really is hit or miss.

This is why I always recommend to dress in layers and just come prepared.

I think it is a nice time to sail as the season is winding down.

Good luck but know that the experieinces of others will vary quite a bit which tells you that it is indeed different each and every time.
