Dream Just Cancelled San Juan

SCUBA Mark

Recommended Posts

We are on the Carnival Dream and they just cancelled our San Juan port

The ship was too big for the pier. The lifeboats and the hottubs stuck out too far and would have hit the pier structure

We tried two different piers and then sat in the bay for a while

The Captain just announced we were cancelling San Juan and will have a sea day.

We will arrive in Grand Turk tomorrow

We have been in San Juan before but I feel bad for the people that haven't

Thank god Grand Turk is a tender port.:p

Are you and Tom having coffee together? LOL

Grand Turk is not a tender port

I think Tom went back to sleep

The ship was not damaged at all

I am sure Carnival will make up for lost shore excursions in the Casino

I have never seen so many people in a Casino before. It is hard to get a slot machine

They had the same problem in New York...Carnival apparently didn't check these things beforehand? And if the passenger liner piers in NY and the dock in San Juan are an issue..then I guess these ports are off for the future?

The devil is in the details...here is hoping Carnival double checked themselves with their Florida dockage.

Okay, who forgot to measure the boat.

well you know there is a learning curve for the crew. I just hope they know how to drive the thing. LOL If not the cheerleaders will tell you there is a curve for that too. LOL Carnival needs to get its act together. I guess you do get what you pay for. Glad we're going west on the Dream Jan 23

So why couldn't the ship have been docked in the bay and tender the passengers over to San Juan? I am guessng there was probably no good area that was out of the way of the other ships. It is a shame however, to miss a port like that, esp. when the problem should have been recognized before the ports were announced. Hope you were able to enjoy the day at sea anyway.

The Royal Carribean ships may be larger, but the design of the ship may be such that it doesn't overhang the pier an cause a problem. Just my 2c worth

You're probably right. I hadn't thought of the way the lanai hangs out. Still, you'd think they would have known this before the day they arrive.

Whatta ya been up to?

No worries about SJ. You really didn`t miss much. This an Nassau are least favorite ports.

I knew that dopey stick out deck was a mistake (blocks ocean view, noise to the balcs above) an now the dam thing won`t fit!

A good torch man could have the whole thing cut off in a few days...

I wonder if this means it's going to be an ongoing problem? Or, perhaps now they know the Dream can only go to certain docks, which presumably were already occupied for this trip, but will be used in the future.

I guess it worse came to worse they could make it a tender port. But if things got that bad, I'd have to think they'd consider eliminating those overhanging hot tubs so they could get into port. The hot tubs would be nice, but overall the pax would rather lose them and not have to tender than keep them and tender I'd say.

Was booked on the Dream but had to cancel. SJ was the main port we wanted to see. Glad we had to cancel. Great job planning by Carnival. What did they give you a $25 on board credit. Should do better than that.

Bill

They got $20 back in a OBC not $25
