Emerald - Stern or Bow

Just off the Emerald. We cruised over Thanksgiving week. We had the aft-most inside cabin on the Riviera deck, starboard side (R745). It was a great location. We were mere steps from the aft Terrace Pool, and only one flight down from the Lido Deck, Cafe Caribe and Horizon Court. Yes, there was more motion there than in the center of the ship, but it wasn't bad & didn't bother us. I don't know if there are any interior cabins near the bow that are that close to an outdoor deck & pool.

Well of course the most desirable location is in the middle since that is where there is the least amount of motion.

But in answer to your question, I prefer the extreme aft to the extreme forward. In fact, the aft facing cabins on the Grand class ships like the Emerald is one our favorite locations.

In high seas, you will get extra motion in both extreme aft and extreme forward, but in the bow you are susceptible to bow slap when the waves crash in to the bow. Bow slap only occurs in high sea conditions, so you may or may not encounter it on your cruise. In the stern you get some noise and vibration from the prop wash. Prop wash is always present to some degree, but I don't find the vibration or the noise objectionable. Other people do.

In the end, it depends on a number of factors including the seas you encounter and personal preference.
