My first B2B on Solstice - Changing Cabins - What to Expect?

Going on Solstice Feb. 14 with DH & his family. DH & his family will leave and I will stay on for the Feb. 21 cruise, when some of my family members will join me.:D I will change cabins. I know some of you have done this and can tell me what I can expect on disembarkation/embarkation day (Feb.. 21)?

When I booked the second cruise, the Celebrity agent said that I would not have to remove my luggage, but that it would be moved for me. Anyone have experience with that?

In the terminal, do I go through the lines with all the new pax to get the new sail & sign card set up?

Thanks,

Doris

Hi Doris:

If you are lucky, the person occupying your 2nd cabin will be off early and your new stateroom steward can prepare it for your move.

You can either make the move yourself or tip your 1st room steward to move your stuff.

Because they are normally very busy, we normally move ourselves. You can ask for a luggage dolly so that you can leave clothes on hangers. We throw most of our stuff in suitcases, carry our on board duty free purchase, our safe contents and move before 9:00am. You will be asked to meet somewhere between 9 and 10 am to go through immigration ashore and depending on the number and speed of ship clearance, you may have a speedy reboarding. Sometimes one passenger can prevent the ship from being cleared by just not showing up.. which can mean a delay of up to two hours (It happened to us a month ago in Miami)

Sometimes your new "keys" will be available the night before, sometimes the computer has to be reset to cancel the previous sailing's key codes.

You will not have to line up with the new passengers.

Enjoy your cruises. Last year for our B2B2B we switched cabins four times on Solstice, just to see which cabin we like best (the centrally located hump)

We did a back to back on Carnival last year and it was very simple. We kept our luggage in the room and our room steward moved the luggage to our next room while we waited in a lounge to be taken off to go through customs. We were taken down to customs around 11:00 am and were back on the ship at 11:15. We were allowed into our new room at 1:00 pm where we found our luggage laid out on the luggage mat on the bed.

Nothing to stress about, they do this a lot now.

We changed room on our b2b earlier this month on the Adventure of the Seas. We received our new card in the morning and didn't have to disembark that morning. We saw our new steward and told him where our new room was. He was going to do the room as quickly as he could, but the people in the room were in no hurry to leave. We were allowed to leave our baggage in our old room until the new one was ready. We moved all our bags ourselves. It was about 10:30 when we moved in the new room.

We took advantage of the fact that most cabins were vacant. So we visited the different cabins, such as Owners Suite and Royal Suite and took photographs. :D I even played a bit on the grand piano. ;)

Thanks to you all for your responses. The knowledge you shared with me from your experiences makes me feel better prepared for my transition from the first to the second cruise; and it is really great knowing I will not have to go through those lines again.

I wish you all a happy new year filled with glorious cruises!

I have always gone off the ship and gone thru customs. after the ship cleared customs we went right back on.

While in San Diego on Dec. 6 for our turn around cruise on Constellation, immgration processed all "foreigners" and B2B cruisers on board and in the process delayed everyone else's departure for shoreside inspection till after 10:30. It was an absolute mess and many people missed their flights.

West coasters seem to do things differently.;)

Once we had to gather in a bar around 10:15, were escorted off the ship, waited 10 or 15 minutes and were escorted back. In Dec 2008, on the Independence OTS, we met in the dining room around 10 and immigrations came on board and cleared us - never got off the ship. It depends on the number of people doing b2b that week and the whim of the immigration person.

We did not change cabins either time and were alowed to return to our cabin immediately.

Appears things are not always done exactly the same. I assume I will receive instructions when the disembarkation information is distributed?

Xellent, yes, west coasters do a lot of things differently! That must have been a real mess and there had to be a lot of very upset pax! There must have been some reason for doing things that way????

AlanAllyn, I like the idea of staying onboard! How cool is that? I don't think that happens very often, though, does it?
