tripperva Posted January 1, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2010 Having sailed from Ft Lauderdale 11 days ago, a very good cruise except for some rough seas. Many passengers from the UK, some from Germany, central America, Switzerland, South America, California,Florida and various other places. Average age younger than usual. The Shadow is as good as ever. This is our 6th Silversea cruise and our 25th cruise overall (Regent, Seabourn, etc) and the staff on board is the most friendly ever. They have photos of the passengers and try to call everyone by name. We had to skip St Barts due to rough seas, but went to St Kitts instead. There is good tour staff. The main restaurant is very civilized and well run. Good food. A great pool cook out and New Years Eve party. One big complaint is the total absense of newspapers or good TV channels to keep up with things. The Carribbean islands do not have American papers,so we are behind on what's happening. Three more days to go and I would guess that most people will give SS and A+ . tripperva
SantaAna,CA Posted January 1, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 1, 2010 I was on the Shadow in November in the Caribbean; had lots of fun. Sorry you're not getting your paper! You can be sure things are just about the same as usual! Glad you're having a great time and Happy New Year to you. It's a gorgeous day in southern California for the Rose Parade. Best wishes for the rest of your cruise. Jane

wripro Posted January 1, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 1, 2010 It's probably not such a bad thing not to know what's going on in the world. Keeps the blood pressure down!
tripperva Posted January 2, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted January 2, 2010 One note of caution on this ship, if you make a dinner reservation, you do not necessarily have a dinner reservation. Be sure to follow up on your booking, especially if it is made by your butler. The Terrazza and pool dinners have a funny way of losing reservations. By the way, a former top butler on Regent Voyager and Mariner, an Indian named Gierish is now in charge of all butlers on Silversea. He will move between ships to supervise and train butlers for SS. He is currently on the Shadow. A good man.
Rare greygypsy Posted January 2, 2010 #7 Share Posted January 2, 2010 You can request specific daily newspapers delivered to your suite for an extra fee for some newspapers. Some were also available daily in the library. Also, if you purchase an internet package you can keep up with the news on the internet. We always get a kick out of International CNN. Have fun! It appears that despite sending some experienced staff to the newbuild Spirit (presumably), they are still able to keep up with the other existing ships. radiogal880 Posted January 12, 2010 #11 Share Posted January 12, 2010 We board the Silver Shadow a week from Friday to cruise the Panama Canal and we are VERY excited! It's our first cruise with Silverseas and from what I've read, we'll be very satisfied. We've cruised NCL and Holland America before and are ready for a step up! Good to hear the Shadow is in great shape and the staff wonderful!
