myajd Posted March 1, 2010 #101 Share Posted March 1, 2010 I used South West and paid $69 from Buffalo to Orlando. Rates do not come out until March 23 for my return. I find they are the cheapest airline around and I love them since they dont charge for a checked in bag. oh wow! that's a great price!! thanks for the info ;)
snelsonbrown Posted March 2, 2010 #102 Share Posted March 2, 2010 Hi, I've studied the map at Port Canaveral.com can't figure if Jetty Park beach is walkable from the dock for the Gem.I just want a beach, if I need to take a taxi to Cocoa Beach I will but Jetty Park has a boardwalk, pier and beach, can I walk to it through the campground.I know the port is commercial, is there anything walkable from the ship? thanks I wish I had a better answer than no way possible to walk from the port to the Jetties and also extremely dangerous - only way to get there is taking a cab - it is worth it or at least I believe so :-))
SomewhereBeyondTheSea Posted March 3, 2010 #103 Share Posted March 3, 2010 This site has been a great source of information. Thank you all for posting all of the useful information. I just contacted http://www.beachlinetransportation.net and they gave me, what I thought to be a very good rate of $27.50 pp each way from MCO to Cocoa Beach. Has anyone used this service? Are they realiable and on time? I only have two people in my party and wasn't sure if they hold the van until they have more passengers going to the same destination. zerooveride Posted March 6, 2010 #104 Share Posted March 6, 2010 So here is what I am looking for. A reliable car service to take two people from Orlando International (MCO) to Port Canaveral that won't mind making a stop or two so we can pickup soda/water and wine and it close to the $80 is would cost to take Carnival's Airport Shuttle. I thought about getting a rental car, but changed my mind. Any ideas or suggestions?

beej Posted March 6, 2010 #106 Share Posted March 6, 2010 I know that i am a little behind the times, but just arrived home from Fort lauderdale and again booked the Freedom of the Seas, and have just found out that Preston is probably already in Tn. In any case, Preston, know that you will be missed for all the great advice and work you have done for these boards and us. Shirley, glad to see that you are here to help us all out as we come to this thread with our many questions. Thank you for all the work you have done already will do in the future. I'll be back soon with my questions.

Why did you change your mind on a car rental - I really believe it is the way to go since its a straight shot and the first page gives a number of places you can stop and nope you won't get lost. I just want to relax when I get off the plane. A rental car is a bit of work. I'm on vacation. Was really looking for recommended but inexpensive car service. Will&Hel Posted March 7, 2010 #111 Share Posted March 7, 2010 We are looking to book in Cocoa Beach pre-cruise in MArch 2011 rather than the Port. mojomanny Posted March 7, 2010 #112 Share Posted March 7, 2010 I appreciate all the help we had from the Cruise Critic Boards in planning our trip and want to help others. A special thanks to Preston and Shirley! I have put together what I hope is the Holy Grail for the Freedom of the Seas Eastern Caribbean itinerary. (if I get enough info for Western Caribbean, I would be happy to add it, so please collect all those handouts on board) It includes photos, menu's, Compasses, excursion info and more. You can visit the links at www.robinsons1874.com/cruise If you have anything I am missing, please send it to me so I can add it. HaileyJordan Posted March 7, 2010 #114 Share Posted March 7, 2010 Hi Steve, all that info was great. We will be on the FOS May 9th. This is the first time for the Eastern. Any suggestions on Coco-Cay what area to head to when we get off the ship? We will probably just rent some mats and hang out in the water for the sun and relax in the shade. My husband likes shade. I will bring home some new compasses if you want me too. I don't do all that scanning and stuff on the computer but I can mail them to you if you want them. Did you take that limo back to the airport? Thanks again.

mojomanny Posted March 9, 2010 #117 Share Posted March 9, 2010 We just snorkeled at Coco Cay but it seemed like there was decent shade available. I would definitely suggest eating on board since the food and lines on the island were the low point of the whole trip. I would be thrilled if you would send me updated info. You can mail it and I will take care of the scanning. Better pictures of the menus would be great too (or maybe you can ask the waiter if you can take a set each day?) I am especially missing desserts. For Compasses you can stop by guest services in the morning and they will have the four kids Compasses ( I did not get as many as I thought I did) Well, anyway, any updates you can provide would be really appreciated. We did take Happy Limo back to the airport. I have used them before and they are fantastic to work with and the car was fantastic. Enjoy your cruise! snelsonbrown Posted March 9, 2010 #118 Share Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) OMG WE ARE HEADED TO UP TO THE 80'S AND SUN - Florida has hit the jackpot finally since we have broke all records on COLD - I know that I washed, aired, had dry cleaned every piece of heavy clothing I hadn't seen in years ;-)) and still couldn't get warm enough so those coming here for your cruising time, be prepared to enjoy our weather. I had convinced myself that Father Time was moving on and Mother Nature decided she wanted to stay behind - well they are finally on the same page or getting there. Water is still a little cool at 59 degree, but hey you can enjoy the sun. Just thought I would share Edited March 9, 2010 by snelsonbrown
corkyanige Posted March 9, 2010 #119 Share Posted March 9, 2010 Thanks for the weather update Shirley!! Thank goodness it's getting back to normal temps down there!! Question for you, Shirley.... we are sailing out April 5, but coming to Port Canaveral April 3... planning to stay 2 nights at the Country Inn & Suite. And we just heard about the space shuttle launch that has been scheduled for April 5. From where we are staying.... what do you think is the best place to "see" the launch, without going too far from our hotel?
HaileyJordan Posted March 9, 2010 #120 Share Posted March 9, 2010 Thanks Steve, maybe we will snorkel at Coco Cay. I will get you new compasses for everyday and the kids compasses also. I will try to do the menus but I know we have reservations for Chops and Porto Fino a few nights. Talk soon.

From where we are staying.... what do you think is the best place to "see" the launch, without going too far from our hotel? You will have a "front seat view" right there at the hotel - IF you try to go any closer which is less than a mile away, it will take you at least an hour or so to get back - stay at the hotel and believe me, you will enjoy what you see especially if its your first time. Get your camera ready for we are down almost to the last counts of the shuttles :-(( ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Listen if you have any questions - go and ask for the manager, tell him you are off this board and he will make sure you are in the right place. Make sure to post after you get back

I thought about getting a rental car, but changed my mind. Any ideas or suggestions? We used http://www.transportationflorida.com/ a couple of years ago and loved it. It was so much nicer to have our driver pick up our luggage and escort us to the nice cool air conditioned car rather than riding a shuttle, then standing in lines to get our rental car, etc. They have a cruise special on their site that is $75 one way for 1-4 passengers. Unless it is a larger car, or you don't have much luggage, I would not put 4 people in the car we were in. Good luck and have a great trip. alwalaska Posted March 10, 2010 #123 Share Posted March 10, 2010 Preston, I stopped in to look for help for someone else and noticed you were moving on to TN. If you check back in, I wanted to say thank you very much for all the help and you will definitely be missed. Shirley, I'm glad to see you are carrying on the tradition. The two of you, along with some of the others on this thread made our cruise out of Port Canaveral even better. :) We hope to be back again some day. We are trying Miami out this year. whizkidcat Posted March 14, 2010 #125 Share Posted March 14, 2010 I need some assistance! We (the two of us) fly into Melbourne Airport for our Cruise on the Dream. We will stay 1 night in a hotel before. I would love to hear your opinions on the least expensive way to do this. We would fly into MCO but it is $100+ more per person! As far as hotel we would love to have an ocean view but it is hard to tell if you have an ocean view from many of the hotels not ON the beach. Any suggestions?
