mehitabel Posted January 12, 2010 Author #51 Share Posted January 12, 2010 Still can't figure out why we brought a bungee cord on the first cruise. Do-it-yourself rock climbing, of course! You don't have to wait for those rubes to come down when you've got your own bungee cord.

Good guess, but they didn't have the walls then. I don't even think rocks were invented yet.:D

sunshine 229 Posted January 13, 2010 #57 Share Posted January 13, 2010 I loved your post mehitabel. But didn't you also forget to mention that none of that stuff matters anyway because a vacation is what you make of it, and any day at sea is better than a day at work? I did forget that, you're right. I also forgot to follow that up by saying that I work in the Happy Free Candy Factory That Also Has Cute Puppies and Booze, and that my days at work are just great, so you can take your little sea-day motto and stuff it. Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted January 13, 2010 #60 Share Posted January 13, 2010 The original post really made me laugh. The OP has an excellent grasp of the intricacies of cruising. I really enjoyed the post and hope the OP does more.

Rare bobmacliberty Posted January 13, 2010 #63 Share Posted January 13, 2010 Mehitabel - You are my new cruising expert resource! I'm a non-smoker and I can't stand the smell cigarette smoke. What would you suggest that I do? Some additional background info on me that's probably not relevant...I like to gamble 24X7. When I'm not in the casino, I like to spend all my time on the balcony smelling the fresh air. I may also occassionally stop in the pub for a beer or 6. Suggestions? What would you suggest that I do? Some additional background info on me that's probably not relevant...I like to gamble 24X7. When I'm not in the casino, I like to spend all my time on the balcony smelling the fresh air. I may also occassionally stop in the pub for a beer or 6. Suggestions? Good questions, good questions. I'd bring a fire extinguisher onboard (NOT in the carryon, unless you mark it "medical oxygen") and courteously blast smokers in the face with it. Warn them first so that they know what's coming--the more spry ones can at least hold a hand up to block some of the battering force. Much more polite than shooting them dirty looks, muttering loudly to one's companion, kicking them in the shins, etc. As for your gambling, are you in luck! But time your gambling carefully. Studies have shown that cruise casinos give the biggest payouts on the FIRST NIGHT, unless you ask the Cruise Director or Casino Manager. Those studies show that cruise casinos have HUGE payouts--wait for it--EVERY NIGHT! So don't worry about wasting your time and money in the casino. You're bound to make it back, as long as you don't fritter your time away with friends, family, shore trips, dining, changing clothes, using the bathroom, and other unprofitable activities. Stick with it! Oh, and your balcony? Whatever. I've already made my views clear on that. Should've booked a suite, unless you have an aft balcony, in which case you're going to have the best cruise of your life. You can never, never cruise again now, unless you're able to get the aft balcony EVERY SINGLE TIME. Yep. The aft balcony is better than any other stateroom and has secret tunnels to the Secret Forbidden Super Happy Fun Time Room, which I'm not allowed to talk about. But regular balconies? Pssshhh. Happy sailing!

wanasail Posted January 13, 2010 #66 Share Posted January 13, 2010 What about those over priced photos that the cheesy photographers make you sit for whilst all dressed up or not on formal night. Then they line them all up so you can hardly get your little digital camera in there to take a shot (whilst no ones looking) of the darn photo so you can go home and print the thing yourself. You'd think they'd make it a lot easier and have little easels to prop the photos on so you could get a good shot.
