sharonlacey Posted January 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2010 We are going on a cruise on May 27th for 9 days. We have been on 4 other cruises but this this time we are bring our daughters and there familys. We have a 3 year old grandson and my daughter is very concerned about going in cabs and on the Islands without a car seat. What have people done for excursions and cab rides with a toddler as far as safety. Thanks.......Sharon:)
paul929207 Posted January 13, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2010 There is a section of these boards dedicated to Family Cruising. You should find lots of help there.
imsulin Posted January 13, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2010 Taxis and vans in the Caribbean rarely even have seatbelts, even if you brought your own car seat. There's quite a bit of discussion about this on the Family Cruises Board, so you might want to check in there. These destinations don't have carseat regulations, and generally try to pack in as many people as possible, because they charge per person....which is why no seatbelts. You could rent a car at each port and use your own car seat, but you'd really be wasting a lot of time and money. Best to just bring a good collapsible stroller and do some walking. Good luck! peptobysmol Posted January 14, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2010 I think that most of the cab/taxi/bus drivers can navigate far far better than most people in the US especially considering the roads. I took my 1.5 yr old on a cruise and didn't even think twice about the travel in local vehicles. Cars are much safer now than even 15 yrs ago. Wasn't much longer before that that car seats weren't even required let alone seatbelts! Be as careful as you can and use your best judgement. All this is IMHO of course. Good luck with your cruise. cb at sea Posted January 14, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2010 I grew up without seatbelts and carseats! Guess what---I'm still here! They'll be fine for the little amount of time they'll be "unrestrained".
