Hi All,

Ive crusied out of NYC with NCL quite a few times but usually leave at the end of May. Ive never had an issue getting on the private island or having terrible weather in NYC or the Bahamas. However having never cruised at the beginning of May im a little nervous.

Can you share your experiences? Was the weather bad?

Thanks!

We have sailed in May out of NYC. No major weather issues. You should be fine. It may be rainy in NYC, but the Bahamas should have nice warm weather.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just back from Jan 31 Jewel. On the day before a scheduled stop at Great Stirrup Cay, Captain came on intercom to say weather was bad and the Jewel would not visit this port. Day at sea instead. Interestingly, we continued to cruise very slowly in the vicinity of the Bahamas, where the weather was quite nice and the ocean had only minor seas. Go Figure. Many disappointed cruisers wondered aloud if this was a ploy to gain more drink sales and casino revenues.

We have cruised out of NYC in May several times. I'd like to say it's always smooth sailing, however, it's not. It can go either way. If you get sea sick, just make sure that you are prepared with medication. The rockin-an-rolling usually is only brief. I certainly wouldn't cancel a cruise because of this !:D

DH uses the patch and has never had a problem, even when there were 20 ft seas on our cruise to Bermuda and Dawn to Bahamas. It was like being on a ride at Disney! Hoping for calm seas in May :)

I see a lot of familiar names in this thread. :D

It is fun to see people from our roll call on other threads :)

We live vicariously through our fellow CC posters. I love reading all the threads...guess I should be doing some work though...LOL, maybe later, I'm not finished reading!

Hi raventhebouv! Thanks for the invite to the roll call!!! ...and that's great that you can celebrate your bday too on the cruise :) can't wait hehe :)

Hi MissKathy107...Glad to see you joined our roll call! The cruise can't come soon enough for me. I wish I could cruise once a month but alas, I must continue to work to afford what cruises we go on now. Guess I'll have to start playing the lottery!

Our Meet and Greet will be a lot of fun!

Does anyone know if there is a retractable roof over the courtyard pool area on the Jewel? NCL reservation agents and supervisers say no, yet on different sites where people have stayed in the ctyard rooms they say there is. Thank you
