Leanne3c Posted February 1, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2010 Has anyone else let Royal do the work of arranging flights from Pearson in Toronto. NOT Choice Air.... Just wondering if we will be looking at a connecting flight out, or with they attempt to put us on a direct flight... Also... Anyone in Toronto know what Airlines Royal might be picking for us... American or Canadian??? Thanks Expecting our tickets in the next few days!!!
Hobiecat01 Posted February 1, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2010 I've had the cruise line (RCCL and Princess) book my flights and have never been happy with them. I do my own now. In these days and times, you can probably get flights cheaper that they will charge you and a much better schedule. On two Princess cruises, we got off the ship at 8:00 AM and flew out of Ft. Lauderdale at 3:30 PM and 7:00 PM. Now we book our own flights and fly down the afternoon before our cruise with our return flight just after noon coming home. We are lucky since we live just outside Atlanta, GA which is easy to get in and out of to Florida. --------------------- Sea ya! blkkshannon Posted February 1, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 1, 2010 We are also flying out of Pearson Airport in March, but did all of the flights ourselves. When I asked them about flights, they wanted us to fly out very early the day before our cruise left, and fly home late on the return flight, and they were all connecting, which I wasn't interested in with kids either! Good luck and hopefully you get the flights you were hoping for.

In 2006 we got a direct flight on Air Canada, In 2007 We got connecting flights on Delta.Going down wasnt bad ,1 hr stop over but coming home was a nightmare. We were off the ship at 815am,left Orlando about 1pm 5 hr stop over and got back to TO at 1215 am,we were not impressed because our friend got direct flights cheeper and were home asleep long before we landed. We have done our own flights since. Not only are you subject to only the airlines they have agreements with, they always have the WORST seats.

American or Canadian???Thanks Expecting our tickets in the next few days!!! I've never let the cruiseline book my air, but based on what I've read and heard from many others I think it's safe to say this: The cruiseline is going to book the cheapest possible flight they can find for you (although they will charge you a set fee and won't pass on any of the savings to you.) That translates into less desirable flight times, and probably connecting flights with long layovers. It is very likely that you can find cheaper flights at more convenient times. Example: RC was going to charge us $450 for a one way ticket to Panama for an upcoming cruise on Enchantment (Colon, Panama to Ft. Lauderdale). We booked our own, direct flights out of Miami for $223.
girlguide Posted February 2, 2010 #7 Share Posted February 2, 2010 We always book our own flights. We also found since we are so close to the border - a 2 hour drive to Seattle - we can fly way cheaper from SEATAC than Vancouver. We're flying to Fort Lauderdale soon & our roundtrip flight for 2 is cheaper than what friends paid for 1 to fly to Fort Lauderdale - booked through Princess. Rare broberts Posted February 2, 2010 #8 Share Posted February 2, 2010 Last year many in my group, headed to Ft Lauderdale, used RCI cruise air. All of them were booked on US airlines which meant they paid luggage fees. None of them had direct flights. Some of them had a return flight from Miami. I vastly prefer direct flights and like to fly in a day or two early so I've taken to booking my own air. Presuming you are headed to Miami (MIA) or Ft Lauderdale (FLL), WestJet flies to Ft Lauderdale, AC flies to both. Fares are generally slightly lower between YYZ and FLL. However, if you are sailing out of Miami you have to factor in the time and cost of getting from FLL to Port of Miami - about 45 minutes, from US$15 per person.
