Cheap Cruise in July???

Summer is the highest time, other than christmas and new years, so "cheap" is relative to other summer cruises.

A short cruise to get your feet wet?? On a smaller older ship would be the most economical. 4 in the same cabin can be cramped, but save more $$$ if you are truly budget minded. If you live near to a port and can drive that cuts down the cost more, so before folks can know the best for you, where do you live? Can you drive to a port? Summer is also going to be blistering hot in the western caribbean that time of year. HOT.

Considering we were in Greece last July for 3 weeks the heat is not an issue for us at all :)

The closest ports to me are Boston or New York. I could also drive to Maryland. Im worried about sea sickness so a small ship is not an option for me:(. How inexpensive could we cruise?? Whats the average cost for a family of 4 without air?? That way I know what we're up against.

We're not allowed to give you the names of any travel agents or agencies, so you're pretty much on your own. Like the previous poster said, July is considered high season for cruises, but there still might be a bargain or two out there. Go to a local travel agent, grab their brochures (at no cost to you at all, you don't need to book with this agent) and look online at each cruise line's websites.

"Small" ships aren't really that small. If you want to sail on the biggest ships in the summer, you are going to pay through the nose. Also note that larger occupancy cabins (3 and 4) will be pricey and sell out quickly ... it is school holiday and when familys tend to vacation.

Check the Port of Baltimore ... Royal Caribbean and Carnival both have sailings from there. It's not going to be "cheap" but you'll save a bunch on airfare. The alternative is to take a flight to miami and try out the Majesty of the Seas ... it's a 4 night itinerary and you could see if you like cruising.

Lowest price/night is currently the Carnival Glory, 4 days out of NYC to St. Johns and back. IF you are just looking to try out a cruise in general, that might be a good one to try. July 8 or 22 departure. Full cost for four of you $1523 with tax. Glory also does a 5 night out of NYC with Halifax added as a port.

If you are looking for a more tropical and full week experience, look at the Norwegian Jewel and Carnival Pride (Baltimore and NYC), both 7 day Bahamas/FL cruises, pricing with tax for four starts at $3400. That is about twice the per night rate of the four dayer above, but as noted, this is July and a popular family time.

Shortest tropical July cruise out of your ports is the 5 day RCCL Enchantment OTS. RCCl does not discount pricing, rate would be $3453. (Two less days and same price as 7 day cruise above).

FYI-Depending the ages of your kids, you may find four in a room is too tight, and you would prefer two cabins. Pricing is often not all that much different on a discounted cruise. As an example, the pricing for the 7 day cruise above on the Pride is $849+tax for the first two people and $699+tax for the 3rd/4th. For $300 more (total $3700) you can have two rooms if your kids are old enough.
