Adventure of the Sea questions

I need all the info I can get on the AOS. Has anyone tried the Promenade inside cabins and what did you think about it vs. an ocean view.

What entertainment things are there an extra charge for, like mini golf, water slides, etc.

Any other details good or bad are welcome. We have not booked yet, just getting info to decide.

Thanks.

AOS is my favorite ship to date.

There is no extra charge for the activities you mentioned. Extra charges apply to specialty restaurants, including the Johnny Rockets 50s Style Burger Diner, Chops, Portifinos and the Ben & Jerry's ice cream. (The typical soft-serve machines by the pool are still no-charge.)

I booked an OV room because I can't afford a balcony but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to wake up in the morning and look at the ocean before even exiting the bed. The bed was right under the window. Perfect!

Some tips:

  • The Schooner Bar is lovely. Sometimes the piano player is fun and super out-going and it's a non-stop party. Sometimes, not so much. If the entertainment in in the Schooner bar is not to your liking (or even if it is!), be sure to check out the English pub on the Promenade Deck. I think it's called the Duck and Dog. There's usually live entertainment in there as well.
  • DO NOT MISS the parades in on the promenade. You'll have a couple of them during a 7-day cruise. They're not long, but they're really great! You won't regret it.
  • DO NOT MISS the 70s party in the Promenade. Even if you're not a child of the disco age, you'll have a fabulous time!
  • DO NOT MISS the ice show.
  • DO NOT MISS the crew versus passenger dodge ball game. Even as a spectator, it's a lot of fun!
  • Don't assume that the Cafe Promenade deli is a specialty restaurant just because it's located along-side the gourmet coffee shop. We made that mistake.
  • Wait until the last day to buy any logo-wear. It typically goes on sale for 50% off.
  • DO NOT MISS the Quest Show and DO NOT LET anyone tell you too much about it. We passed our cruise director in the hall and he dragged us to it. We'd never been. What a HOOT! So glad we didn't miss out!
  • There is more at the pizza place than pizza. Check it out!

ENJOY!!! You'll LOVE it!

PrintingChick,

WOW! You are a wealth of information. I can use all of your knowledge. If we book this cruise I may have other questions later. Right now I'd like to know more about cabin choices, are there any cabin catagories I should stay away from such as obstructed views or perhaps some really great cabins I should try to get?

Many thanks.

Honestly jetstorm, ckrobyn is the Queen of OAS so you should take her advice and read the main AOS thread (which she started). If after reading you still have questions post them there and you'll have lots of people (ckrobyn included) be thrilled to help you out. AOS is a wonderful ship (we'll be on her for the 2nd time in 3 weeks) and has a great following via that thread.

Afraid I'm a budget traveler. I'm always in an OV cabin on deck 2 or 3, as those are the least expensive cabins that have windows! You'll probably need the help of a balcony expert!

Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks so much for the info., we are actually looking at the cabins with just a window, not the balcony.

Due to price concerns, we always book on the lowest decks, 2 or 3.

The pros, in addition to price:

  • Easy to get back to your room after visiting a port of call. Southern Caribbean itineraries tend to be very port intensive, so that can be a big deal. You won't wait with a big mob, trying to get an elevator up to deck 8 or 9. You can walk up one or two flights of stairs and be in your cabin.
  • It's also easy to get to the MDR (usually on deck 4) and the Promenade (deck 5) from the lower decks.
  • Less ship motion in the lower decks, particularly mid-ship.
  • You're away from public areas of the ship, meaning no chance of finding yourself adjacent to a the disco, casino, Schooner Bar or other noisy venue.

The cons:

  • You will need to get on an elevator every morning to get to the Windjammer, unless you eat breakfast in the main dining room. We've tried to be good and take the stairs, but it's a LONG way up to the pool deck from deck 2!
  • When you dock at port, the dock is right outside your window. That can be interesting for people watching, but you don't want to be in a state of undress in your cabin while the ship is in port!!

I always book deck 2 on Voyager class ships. I love the location. Printingchick got it all right. There is no need for me to say the same things all over again. I do agree with everything she said. And don't worry about getting elevators. The nice thing is that by the time they get down to deck 2 they are empty as everyone has gotten off at the decks that they were going to as there really is no reason for anyone who is not staying on deck 2 to be on it.

I love this ship as well as her itineraries. I am going to miss her this year as we are doing Independence. Next year it is back down south for us!
