jlovely Posted February 6, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2010 I know there's a name for your room/access keys but I'm drawing a blank! But here's my question... My friend and I will definitely be charging things to the room... at the end of the week though, can we split the payment amongst two credit cards? Can we just use our credit card on the ship or does everything have to be put on our room card? Or if this isn't how it works someone please enlighten me! Thanks! Rare broberts Posted February 6, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2010 When you complete your on-line registration you will have the opportunity of providing separate cc information for each person. See the Royal Caribbean information here for a full explanation.
jcdchgo Posted February 6, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 6, 2010 It's called a Seapass, you will each have one, and each of you can put you own credit card as collateral. Or you can back the account with cash.
madforcruising Posted February 6, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 6, 2010 On the ship the Seapass card is the only method of payment. You can´t pay anything with cash / credit card onboard, except use it for gambling in the casino. However as others have said you can settle each of your accounts with different credit cards. Just one heads up, there´s things like stuff from the MiniBar, where the steward refilling and charging won´t know who has consumed it and the charge will go to the SeaPass card of the person listed first in the cabin. Rare silentbob007 Posted February 6, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 6, 2010 If you pay gratuities on your card, I've also had problems with RCCL correctly charging both individually instead of putting all of them on one card.
RoofingPrincess Posted February 6, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 6, 2010 I've never had a problem with separate accounts for the two people in the room - and that's the only way I've cruised. No problem with tips being placed on the account, either. We don't use the mini-bar, so those charges haven't been an issue.

You can´t pay anything with cash / credit card onboard, except use it for gambling in the casino. You know why they do this. People tend to spend about 30% more when they use a credit card, and this is just another form of a credit card. The lack of visibility of money makes the transaction seem less real, and people tend not to think of it as having spent anything.
cb at sea Posted February 6, 2010 #8 Share Posted February 6, 2010 If each of you have separate accounts (backed with your own credit card, for instance) if you both buy drinks, you should purchase them separately...if you buy, say, 2 beers, they will both go on YOUR account. Whoever's seapass is presented is who will be charged for it. So, if you both want to buy your own beer, then you need to present BOTH seapasses and order separately. They use a "cash-less" system because it is more efficient. Cash operations take more man hours to reconcile and are subject to more theft and human error. They can also easily use data-mining to track spending habits and trends by various passenger demographics. To the OP: you can monitor your SeaPass transactions on the television in your stateroom. Most charges will appear immediately.
jlovely Posted February 6, 2010 Author #10 Share Posted February 6, 2010 Thank you everyone for the info! Glad to hear that you can use two seperate cards. I'm used to having a room charge card from all our trips to Disney over the years so I'll be somewhat disciplined in not over charging. We never bring cash or normal credit cards after we check in and set up our room card. I also hardly ever use cash in the 'real world' either. I accumulate credit card reward points for free airfare so I even charge my $1.50 coffee every morning at work....then make sure to pay it all off in full every month. It's enabled me to fly down to Miami for free to get to the cruise! :)
PattyG12 Posted February 6, 2010 #11 Share Posted February 6, 2010 DH and I do this all the time. That way my sea pass card isn't used as much in the casino! If something is used from the mini bar, the first named person on the room (i.e., the one that booked the cruise) will be charged for it.
