The no shorts is for the evening during and after dinner. Not the daytime. Getting to and from the pool most wear cover ups of one type or another. Welcome to cruise critic.

Some wear a robe.....................Ok, I'm going to my room:cool:

Lots of people wore their robes to the pool. For some reason I felt funny walking around the halls in my robe.....so I would wear a cover up or just shorts over my bathing suit.

I spent most of the daylight hours in shorts on my last long voyage.....it was nice and hot and sunny. After the afternoon.....the shorts came off and were replace by either long pants or long dresses. Very nice comfortable atmosphere.

How do you dress getting to and from a pool?
If you're dressed in gym clothes or a swim suit and walking a hallway to/from the pool/gym end of the ship it is understood and acceptable. What is not welcome is going to restaurants, lounges/bar, casino, shows, etc in shorts in the evening.

True. However, because HAL refuses to police clothing outside the NDR, one will -- sometimes -- still see shorts and such during the evening hours. On my latest and just-ended Hawaii cruise on the Zaandam we saw a few people wandering the ship, sitting in the lounges, and (yes) eating in the MDR on Smart Casual nights. A few also could be seen "out and about" (but not in the MDR) in shorts on even the Formal Nights. Not large numbers, mind you, but enough that one didn't have to look hard to find 'em.

On my most recent cruise I saw bare-chested men in the Lido on two occasions.

One of the men did have a towel folded and wrapped around his neck, but still ... And the other, a young man in his early 20s I'd guess, was wearing droopy shorts with his underwear showing, and no shirt.

And this was a first for me: the above-mentioned young man showed up for a late afternoon event in the theatre in the same garb - underwear showing, shorts drooping. He was again bare-chested, but had draped a towel over one shoulder.

I saw many people in the dining room in shorts on smart casual nights. More men than women.
