VicGuy Posted February 8, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Hey Guys, Have got some friends who have booked on the Pac Sun from Auckland for the 21 night Tahitian Treasures (Got a really good deal on the cruise). Due to the time difference they have decided to fly in two days earlier to have a squiz at Auckland and have plenty of time to board. Does anyone know any decent accommodation in the city centre and close to the wharf that doesn't cost a bomb.
aussiedisneyfan Posted February 8, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2010 We were really happy with the Oaks on Hobson which is apartment style accommodation. I found it clean and comfortable and it was good to have a kitchen (2 bedroom unit). It is just over 1km (about 15 min) walk straight down the road to the pier. We did catch a taxi this time as we had so much stuff with us. Hilton hotel is great but usually very expensive, Xmas 2008 we managed to get a great rate. Others have stayed at the Copthorne which is across the road from the pier, can't get any closer.
rugbypopsie Posted February 8, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 8, 2010 I have stayed at the Stamford Plaza and the Sebel which is right on the water near the pier...the Sebel wins hands down.
brad_p Posted February 9, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2010 Check on "Wotif" for the following (in order of best to "worse" IMO :)): - Hilton Auckland - Sebel Suites - Stamford Plaza - Copthorne Hotel All are mins from the wharf.
mummsie Posted February 9, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2010 We stayed at the Copthorne. As the other poster said - directly across the road - 2 minute walk on a bad traffic day. We were able to get up early and watch the ship come in :D mummsie
Kiwi Kruzer Posted February 9, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 9, 2010 Another one to check out is the Grand Chancellor, Auckland. It is just up behind the Copthorne . We have had overseas friends stay there . They got a really good rate and found the hotel satisfactory. It occupies the first 6 levels of a high rise block , the rest of which are private apartments. Have you / your friends been onto the Roll Call yet? If not, go there, log in so to speak. I put some details of a great shore excursion there that you may want to copy for your friends and let me know via the roll call site if they would like to go. Here's the roll call site - http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=23028338#post23028338 BTW, have a look at www.wotif.com and see if there are any good deals. edington64 Posted February 14, 2010 #8 Share Posted February 14, 2010 We are on the same cruise, we have booked the Copthorne for 2 nights and it is costing us $240.00 for the 2 nights for 3 of us ($120.00 a night) which is very cheap, I think!! We are also visiting Rotorua, Whakatane and Whatanga and paying a lot more a night for a hotel than in Auckland. Peter.
