millem3 Posted February 9, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2010 We booked on Crown Princess. As "newbies" we are curious as to when we will receive details of our room assignment? ie how far in advance of trip? We sail in early April. Thanks in advance. cruiseaholic78 Posted February 9, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2010 I don't understand this surely you choose the number of the cabin when you are making the reservation or am I missing something here? kind regards
sparky-elpaso Posted February 9, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2010 Posters on the HAL board have been reporting 14 to 18 days out for guarantee cabin assignments. Don't know if Princess would be about the same or not.
uppitycats Posted February 9, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2010 I don't understand this surely you choose the number of the cabin when you are making the reservation or am I missing something here?kind regards Yes, you're missing the practice of booking a "guarantee", rather than an actual cabin that you've chosen. This is a cheaper way to book a cabin. A person can ask to be assigned a cabin in a particular category of cabin, and in doing so, will be "guaranteed" at least a cabin in that category, but often will be upgraded to something better, at the cheaper cabin price. Yes that is what we are doing (at the advice of our elite Cruise travel agent) Guess that results in delay in room assignment, which makes sense. Rare geoherb Posted February 10, 2010 #7 Share Posted February 10, 2010 Our travel agent is really good about letting us know when our cabin assignment has been made. Lately, we've received them a few weeks after the final payment date on our two most recent Princess cruise. When we sailed on Holland America last spring, we found out about two weeks before sailing. Some folks in our Cruise Critic party did not find out until getting to the pier. That was a sold-out ship, and HAL was offering incentives to some people to get them to cancel. I'm sure there was a lot of last-minute reshuffling of cabin assignments. TXHillbillyGirl Posted February 11, 2010 #8 Share Posted February 11, 2010 I booked with Carnival about 3 pm (where they pick your cabin) and we had our cabin assigned the next morning. We did pay in full. Not sure if this made a difference. It showed up when I checked our documents the next morning on line.
